Question about GE Spacemaker JVM1640SJ Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Where do I find the fuse?

I have a GE Spacesaver XL 1800, Model number JVM1851CH02. My wife was cooking some vegetables when it lost all power. No lights or anything. Circuit breaker OK. Other appliances work in the outlet. Is the next step to check the fuse? If so, where do I find it. Do I have to take it out from beneath the cabinets?

Thanks,
Todd

Yes you do and this is not reall advisable as there is high voltage components inside.thre is normally a fault with the machine if it blows a fuse.if you want to still try then make sure yoiu unplug it and short the plug on some metal to get rid of any stored charge.the main things to blow a fuse is the door switches sticking, the bulb blowing or a fault with the high voltage system which you would need a special multimeter to yest, hope this helps

How do I set the power at 50%?

After first setting the cook time---then hit the power level button and hit the number 5 (for 50%) and then start. Power level can also be changed while running by hitting power level button and selecting 1 through 10. For example level 3 is 30% for defrosting.

GE spacesaver xl just died. No fan, no lights, no power. Where should I go to repair? I live in Las Vegas

Might want to check the 20A fuse by the power supply before you haul it somewhere and they charge you a service charge for a cheap fuse...

Light's on, plate rotates, no heat

When the microwave works properly but just doesn't heat, then the magnetron is bad and will need to be replaced. You can get the part and the diagram at partselect . com or repairclinic . com

GE Spacesaver 1800 XL - rattling sound

Hi jnflanders,
You've probably solved this by now, but I'll answer just in case. That part is called the stirrer motor. You can replace it yourself, as long as you have an offset phillip's head screwdriver handy.
Before you order the replacement part, figure out if your stirrer is driven by a d-shaped or a square shaft. You can tell by taking off the round plate on the inside top wall of the microwave. GE makes stirrer motors for both d-shaped and square shafts, so you'll have to get the right one. Here's the d-shaped motor that fixed this problem with my microwave: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/part_details.aspx?part_id=2024961.
Good luck!

GE XL 1800 quit heating

I don't like to pass on your problem but it sounds very much like either the high voltage supply ot the magnetron has bit the dust.
Either one would make the repair marginal at best.

This is apparently not a very good unit, many microwaves jsut kind of fade away as their magnetron emissions decay.

This one seems to have a bad rep. look at this link:

Sorry, have owned a lemon or two myself.
