Yep, we have the same probem with our LG HT903TA, we purchased the unit to get surround sound from our new new LG plasma hd and foxtel hd. The manual instructs for 5.1ch ez set-up - to connect the unit's optical in jack to the jack on optical out of our tv, did that; no sound! When playing a dvd in the unit, crisp, wonderful surround sound but when we watch tv or foxtel hd - only the two front speakers give out sound, that sucks! Cannot find a solution, very disapppointed.

Same problem here. Can't get surround on the TV or on the LG blu-ray player which came packaged with the HT903TA!! Only comes out through front-center, left and right speakers (no subwoofer either from what I can tell).

Had it all professionally installed by the shop I purchased it from (along with the plasma TV) so I assume everything is plugged in correctly via HDMI, optical audio etc.

Not so fussed about surround while watching TV, but it's ridiculous to only have 2.1 channels on the blu-ray!

On the LG DVD remote press the VSM button (just to the right of the volume button) until PL II MOVIE is displayed on the DVD front panel. This will send sound to the back speakers as well as the front.

(I still don't think this is true 5.1ch surround sound however but the cloestest I've been able to get)

BTW you'll need to have an optical audio cable connecting the Plasma / LCD and the DVD. DVD input will need to be set to AUX OPT.

Hi I have A LG50PG20 the sound in the tv speakers wont work but when I use simplink it works trough the dvd speakers

That is the correct function of the SIMPLINK.
If you look at the bottom of the page of #44 in your user LG TV manual, you can read about the SIMPLINK issue.
“When you select a device with a home theater functionality, the sound output automatically switches to the home theater speakers.
You can turn off the SIMPLINK function to stop this issue. Go to "Menu", select the white "Toolbox", and look down and you will see the SIMPLINK to change its ON/OFF option.
Good Luck.

OK. For all you regular Joe's like me here's the fix--plain and simple! I have Dish Networks HD receiver, an LG Home Theater System (LHB953) and an LG HD Television - although I suspect this applies for most LG TV-to-LG Audio Systems used in combination with a HD TV). My problem lied within the LG to LG setting known as SIMPLINK which tries to "auto-configure" everything between LG to LG devices.

Do this to make your HD TV (using Dish/DirecTV) play it's HD video display from the satellite provider but play the audio over the LG surround sound speakers:

1. Plug a HDMI cable from your satelite receiver's set-top-box to your HD TV. This will carry your HD "video" ONLY. Click "Input" on the TV remote until the HD video signal shows your desired TV channel from your satellite provider.

2. Plug an HD Optical cable (the one with the red laser) from your LG HTS (Home Theater System) to your satellite box. This will carry your HD "audio" ONLY.

3. This is the magic everyone seems to be overlooking. On the LG TV remote, go into the menu options and disable SIMPLINK by setting SIMPLINK=OFF. This feature allows the video and audio signals to be split over 2 different ports: HD video goes over the HDMI cable and the audio to go over the HD Optical cable.

Hope this helps!

Getting sound when in telly mode

You have to use the switch on the pro - logic simulation. Your remote button might say sound or PII(with an icon). Usually if you continue to press the buttion you will cycle this different presets, ie. Music, Movie, Cinema, etc. These are optimized for the type of media your using, but try them all and see what works.

Home theater system connections

Hi
I have the same tv but my dvd surround is a toshiba, that shouldn't matter though. When I watch a dvd I go to component 2 which is where I have my dvd connected on the input of the tv when I watch tv and want the surround on I go to component 1 which is the tv input then on my dvd player I go to auxillary and I can watch tv in surround. I don't know the LG home theatre system but you should be able to select your inputs like between dvd, tuner, aux. Flip between them and you should get sound. hope this helps.
