Screen dark on monitor

1. you possibly have a malfunction inverter board which is internal to the PC.
2. this will require a qualified tech to dismantle the pc and replace the component board that connects to the video card that is integrated to the mother board.
2. if the video card is not working this will require a new mother board to be installed.
3. there is a cable also in some models that connect the video display to the mother board and this cable could have be dislodged and the results is no screen.

I open my laptop but nothing shows on the screen, it is black

either the internal video has failed. or the hard drive . if the buttons light up but the screen is just real dark it might even be what we call an inverter board. black screen whit cursor is a hard drive problem. no activity is the video on the mother board. so the motherboard would have to be replaced.

I turn on the pavioliion dv4 and there is no screen. i hear it on but see nothing

http://www.ehow.com/how_6162556_change-screen-brightness-hp-laptop.html This is a link to with instructions on how to change the brightness of your computor. It may be on too dark a setting now. Another possibility is that the screen has worn out and needs to be replaced. A third is that the computor itself is not working properly now, although you say you hear it on. If it is not a question of brightness (the setting is too low and now everything looks dark), I would take it to a place which repairs HP's.

Motherboard is fried should the proccessor be replaced too

Not necessary to replaced. First fix it with you new mother board and try to run. If that time its not working then replaced it. Before replaced just confirm its damaged.
Thanks.

I have a Sony VGN-FZ150E notebook that died. The Motherboard is fried. Can you tell me the best way to get it replaced or replace it myself? Any idea where I can get the part the cheapest?

The motherboard on that laptop is a real bear to replace. Your best bet is to find another dead one but that has a good motherboard (which is very hard to do) and try to make a frankenstein out of the two. What I would do if it were mine is just buy a new laptop and an external drive enclosure for the hard drive out of the dead Sony, then transfer the files from the old hard drive to the new laptop. Good luck!

Laptop won't boot from AC power but will on the battery. I'm pretty sure my power cord died and fried the DC connector. Is it possible to fix this by replacing the DC jack?

You can try, but that's a fairly delicate procedure - it's very unlikely that JUST the physical jack itself is fried, you are probably looking at a full power supply board replacement - probably $150-200 just for the part itself. Mainboards are online for around $2-300 as well - I use www.impactcomputers.com myself for laptop parts - best prices around. Good luck!

Real dark screen on Toshiba A135-s4437

First I would check to make sure that the contrast/brightness buttons on the laptop weren't accidentally changed, making the screen dark. Also, try with and without the battery and power supply. Otherwise, unless it is actually the screen that is defective, it is usually a power converter replacement, which is a small circuit board, usually under the plastic cover directly under the monitor, which supplies power to the monitor. You may want to take it to a shop as they can isolate the issue easier.....

My laptop does not turn on

No idea why they fixed the problem then said it is the motherboard. There are times though when the motherboard is actually bad and it does need to be replaced even with replacing the jack. With a motherboard it has to convernt electricity and sometimes the wiring is fried or bad. But if it works then let it run, if not, I would take it some where else and have another company check to make sure that they did not melt the board causing it to be a board problem
