My camera has suddenly stopped working. All I get now is a flashin AV sign on the LCD screen and the lense wont even focus, nor will the flash pop up. I have charged and replaced the batteries but this hasn't made any difference.

What do you mean with autofocus lens frozen?
What lens do you use, and what are the settings on your camera. Even when you have chosen automatic on the main dail, to the left of the lens is a switch on the camera, that can be set to manual. Even on a lot of AF lenses, are switches that can be set to manual.
In your camera only modern AF lenses with Nikon F connection will work with AF. The older AF lenses (Mechanical focus) need a focus motor in the camera body, only found in the camera's that also have a little LCD screen on top of the camera. (Not in 3x00, or 5x00 models)
But if you are sure this lens worked in your camera before, please check the switches on the camera and on the lens.
Still problems? tell me what lens you are using and how is the switch AF / M on your camera now?
Hi, Also, try a factory reset found on page 129 of the manual. On the left side of the camera is the terminal cover, inside below the USB connector is the reset switch. If that does not work call Nikon digital 1-800-645-6689.
Maybe you drop your battery and they have electronic components inside that could be spoiled, if is that the case, try to change the battery, it appeares to me that the ammount of current the battery is sending to the component is very low even thoe it seems to be fully charged that's why the camera is unable to display anything and the "busy" warning is blinking all the time, I hope you find this usefull.
I've got the same problem. The problem is that the lense is loosely attached to the body. What you need to do is that when you see the Av flashing, press the lense of the camera to the body and twist the lense to the left a bit. This tightens the connection. You can then take the photo.
I had this issue just this morning, and came here for a solution. Problem: Camera functions normally except it will not take a picture, let me autofocus, or bring up the light meter in the viewfinder. Attempted Solutions: First turned it Off/On. Then Switched lenses, same thing. Removed/replaced battery, changed settings. Removed the lens, and it takes a picture, replaced the lens, and it still will not. Then I came here, and heard that it was most likely an issue with the lens contacts. I've heard of Rebels having error 99's which were contact errors, and canon's official solution was to use a pencil eraser (like the one attached to the back of a No.2) and gently rub the surface of the contacts with it, and it worked in that situation. Guess what? This solution worked instantly, and my camera is back to normal. I don't know if it will work long term yet because I just tried it like 10 mins ago and only after taking down all of my lighting equipment, but all seems well.
