Question about Dishwashers

Open Question

Maytag Dishwasher circa 2002 - Defective Plastic rollers The plastic rollers that slide the arms of the dish rack keep breaking. I have had this dishwasher for 6yrs now and go through 1 a year. This defect is really annoying for two reasons one; the cost - $50 each - X's 6 years = $300. Secondly, the inconvenience of having a delapitated dish rack that crashes sideways - with the weight on only one side. Presently, I'm about to order my 6th one. I'd like to know if you are aware of this defect? Has there been a breakthrough in somehow beefing up the plastic so it doesn't do this anymore? Has there been any change in this roller part? Surely, I can't be the only one. Respectfully, Cheryl Lamb

SOURCE: Trying to replace broken upper rack adjustment arm . . .

first off check to see if there is an endcap either the front or back of the track. if so remove the cap. check for end mount screws. if no screws the endcap opens up the route for popping the plastic cover off and exposing the screws.. see diagram(may not be exact model but it gives you an idea)

SOURCE: Replacing Rollers on GE 725

Hi bklink_2000,

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your problem is: Now that you have the rollers you can't see how to get the old ones out or the new ones in. You are worried that if you forced the plastic piece out at the front of the steel rail you may bend the rail.

You're on the right track! The plastic end caps should pop off, that,s what they're for.

SOURCE: Broken rollers inside top rack slides

We got rollers recently from Johnstone Supply, 501 Third Avenue, South, Nashville, TN telephone 615-259-3440 or 254-0702. I don't know the cost, but I'm pretty sure it was not $72. I suggest that you have the model #.
I am planning to buy some for another dishwasher at the moment.

SOURCE: Maytag Quiet Series 300 dishwasher, dishes come out dirty

A water softner will not make the dishes any cleaner, it just makes it so they don't have water spots on them.
If the dishes are dirty, it is most likely that the nozzles (holes) in arms may be plugged.
Also check to make sure you are getting plenty of water to dishwasher. Make sure all water valves are full turned open.

If the control panel does not work all the time, it is very likely you have either a shorted wire, or a fualty main board which is very common in newer machines.

The upper spray arm came detached, how do I reattach it?

On my dishwasher, this arm attaches with a huge gray plastic screw. If it comes loose, you'll usually find the spray arm sitting in the bottom rack, but the screw falls down to the bottom of the tub.

The spray arm has a hole that goes all the way through its center. One of these holes is larger than the other, so the arm will only attach in one direction. Most of the spray holes on the arm face "up" when installed.

Slide out the upper rack, position the spray arm on its pivot, then insert the screw and turn clockwise to tighten it. The arm should spin freely.

If this arm isn't attached, none of the dishes will wash well (due to a loss of water pressure).

How do I repair the upper rack slide on a Whirlpool W10431033A dishwasher.

If it's like my Maytag there appears to be a plastic bump or catch on the outside edge of the slider. A very hard push on the catch should allow you to get the cap out of the end of the slider.

Lower Rack

  • Remove all of the dishes from the lower dishwasher rack.

2 upper rack rollers cracked in Maytag #MDB7600AWS - cant find simple replacement rollers for inside track - 1 1/4" - of upper rack.

JP Weld works great on repairing these junky Maytag parts. Note that they don't have a replacement for these upper wheels and a guy is selling expensive stainless steel replacements. The round connector broke off of ours that holds the wheel to the rack. My wife found a plastic button that fit within the space and we glued it with JP Weld epoxy (water and temperature resistant). 10 washes later, still working great! I expect it will "heal" any other plastic parts. NEVER will I buy a Maytag again!

Maytag Quiet Series 300/Dishwasher leaving gritty stuff on dishes

My model is simillar Cheri's. Every couple years I have to remove the plastic spray bars. They are held on by a simple torque screw. Once removed you will see debris plugging many of the holes. I have found this on all 4 of my spray bars. This debris prevents the right amount of water in the wash and rinse cycles. The upper spray bars seem to be the worse. This explains the trouble most folks have with glasses in the upper rack. Also check the docking station. You will fiind it along the back wall of your unit. The plastic tubes on the backside of each rack will slide into a hole in the docking station. After a few years the rubber seal in the docking station will be worn away. Once this happens, it prevents the correct water pressure to the upper rack. The replacement part snaps into place and cost about $25.
