JVC Car stereo problems

I've had this system for years. But awhile ago my radio stopped working...I could turn it all the way up and theres nothing, just static. Now my cd player doesnt work. I purchased it at Best Buy awhile ago with a warranty, but now they say I didnt have one, plus I need to buy a new one. Is there any way I can get some suggestions on how to fix my radio, everything in the back of the box is hooked up correctly still...is there certain buttons I hit or something please help. Thanks.

I'm having a similar problem -- I thought it was just my antenna when my radio reception started getting patchy, but last week, my JVC just stopped working -- no power, no nothing -- & with a CD still in the player

As a sanity check run a temporary wire directly from the battery positive to the radio. Twist the red and yellow wires together and connect it to the wire from the battery. If this works either your red or yellow wire connection under the dash or to the harness is not hot like you think. Yellow usually goes to a constant 12 volt source (to keep radio memory) and the red wire to 12volts when the ignition is on. In some radios this is reversed. The test I mentioned will determin if the problem is in the wiring or the radio.

There was probably a bad connection to the power supply. There are three wires. RED is battery(12 volts at all times)YELLOW or ORANGE is acc.(12 volts when key is in acc position) BLACK is ground(connected to any metal part of the car). Pull out the stereo and make redo these connection and makes sure they are right this time.

To test radio to see if its working you can bench test it. This means to combine red and yellow and run to 12V positive and Black to 12V negative. IF radio turns on, it would mean its working.

is your stereo the OEM (factory original) model? Does the car have a factory-installed anti-theft system? If the answer to both is Yes, you may have a logic conflict since many anti-theft systems go to and through the car's stereo. If you still have the original owner's manual, check the section on anti-theft or security systems. It may list a reset procedure that returns the system to factory defaults. If you have an aftermarket anti-theft system, you may have to disable it until troubleshooting and repair processes have been accomplished. Incidentally, by the car sitting without a battery for five years, all E-prom programming may have been degraded or lost. As for the volume increasing, some GM/Delco radios have a volume compensation feature that increases volume levels as speed increases.

If you have a multimeter, try checking the speakers and speaker wires for shorts and/or grounds. Make sure your speaker wire has no bares spots. If the speakers and speaker wires all check out good, you may have a bad internal output ic.

Speakers have a tendency to change characteristics. Take the radio out and carefully disconnect one by one speaker. Don't disconnect all of them if you don't know which wire goes where. Then try increasing volume to the cut off limit. You may be lucky to find the speaker that cause the trouble.Try a different speaker prior to unit repair attempt

JVC KD-G200 won't power up any more.

Have you checked the fuse-box to make sure that you didn't blow the fuse for the radio? Also try removing the radio and checking the wiring to ensure that it is tight. There is also a fuse on the back of most radios to check!!

SSwaim, sounds like a grounding problem. Check the connections behind the dash, possibly a couple came loose. I would say possibly a bad car battery but the headlights thing points to a grounding issue to me.
