No, that means there is singeing where there should not be singeing. You can get your adaptor tested free, and you can also get your battery tested (they only last a year or two, depending on use.)

You filed your problem under Packard Bell PC Desktops...and it's for a laptop.  Start over!

My toshiba satilite L305D-S5940 Wont charge has new battery new power cord It comes on acts like its going to work then shuts off and sometimes wont come on What could it be please

Hi there,
1st : you can check from the power cable charge
2nd : check the adaptor charger if there is a light indicator or not, or you can check with multimeter to check the voltage on charger adaptor, does show the proper voltage for your laptop, you can check at the end of the connection that leads to the laptop.
note : Remember use DC current at Multimeter
3rd : if the adaptor running well, just plug on the adaptor charger to the laptop, dont turn on the laptop power, just see the light indicator with battery / lightning image on laptop, its explained that there is or is not the power current running to the laptop.
3rd.A : if its no power goes to the laptop then your adaptor charger is failed
3rd.B : if is there, there must be a problem with your motherboard, section power / power plugs, why do not want to charge with a new battery.
Conclusion :
- if the problem on number 1 & 2, then you can change the power cord and the adaptor charger.
- if there is problem on the 3rd.B then you can go to the toshiba services center for your problem.

thats all, hope its help.

Hi. I have a Toshiba laptop a205 s5812. The problem is when I start it with AC adaptor connected it wont start. If I start it without connecting the adaptor it works fine, but once on if I connect the...

Although this may only be a temporary solution, try connecting the adapter but taking the battery out. Now try turning on the laptop. It should work. Unfortunately, this means that you will need to always connect the laptop to the wall when you want to use it.

If your adaptor is not supplying enough current, it won't be able to run the laptop and charge at the same time.
Try a new adaptor. Cheap as anything on ebay!

Dell laptop wont turn on. battery only works if it is already charged and it doesn't run on A/C power.

It means that is something wrong, most surely with te AC/DC adaptor. Try with other compatible adaptor or take the laptop to service.

Dell Inspiron 9400 will not charge - AC adaptor not recognised

Does the laptop power up just no charge the battery? If the laptop does not power on then you may have a bad power supply in the unit. If it does power up than you most likely have a bad battery connector of blown fuse on the motherboard. The flashing of the BIOS is done with a bootable cd or floppy but this will not keep the new battery from charging. The reason Dell states that you need at least 10% battery to flash a BIOS is because if your AC power goes out while you are doing a BIOS upgrade and you don't have battery power the BIOS will be incomplete and your laptop will not boot again without replacing the motherboard.

r u mention for battery light?if is it true, then the light is blinking because of your laptop want to make sure the power supply charge that battery.if it is in charging condition, the light on.but if the light goes off, that mean, the battery is already full.

But when u use adaptor without battery, the light will goes off because no charging session is in progress which has same behaviour with battery full(during battery full,no charging session occur)

AC Power adaptor wont work without usb printer connected

Hey alberto,
First off thanks for choosing Fixya.com. The Ac adapter itself could be bad or it could be the dc jack. And also the problem with your cpu fan could also be that the fan has gone out or the motherboard itself needs to be replaced.

HP Pavillion dv6000 -when I plug in AC adaptor, it won't charge

Hi ja525,
If you have tested the power adaptor with a multi-meter to confirm it is OK or the other adaptor is also OK assuming that it is the correct voltage and at least the same current rating. Then the fault is most likely the power connector in the laptop.
To confirm this, power up as normal with the power adaptor connected and switched on, when the blue LED dims wriggle the power connector where it connects into the laptop and if the LED comes on or blinks, that means that you have a faulty power connector, it couls be a dry solder joint at the power connector.
It is possible that the power adaptor is shutting down (thermal overload) due to insufficient current capacity, Check the Amp rating of the laptop, it is usually on the lable on the botom of the laptop and check it against the power adaptor, the adaptor should be equal too or greater that the laptop's current rating.

To fix a faulty connector, you can dismantle the laptop and with a fine tip temperature controlled soldering iron, resolder the power connector and hopefully this will fix your prolem.

Connection overheating

If it is the external adapter that is overheating and stopping after a while yes, replace it immediately. Fact that power adaptor is overheating means that there is a short inside the adaptor, this may damage the laptop, then change it as soon as possible.
If the laptop itself is overheating, check if the cpu fan is working, and eventually replace it.
