Hello, I am unable to open the MESSAGE icon on my PALM PRE phone. I have powered off, moved the icon thinking it might be a fault with the screen where the icon was placed. I can access everything else. SpursMurray

It sounds like you may have a software error from your device. Chances are good a hard reset would resolve the issue. A hard reset is when you reset the device and restore it to factory settings. Note doing this will delete all data from your device, so it would be wise to back everything up first!
Also, since your Palm Pre has a feature called a Palm Profile, ENSURE with 100% certainty that you have the correct email address and password for your palm profile. This info will be very helpful and required to re-sync all your contact data to your device.
Once you have backed up and are ready to hard reset your device;

  • Open Device Info
  • Phone Reset Options
  • Tap Partial Erase Partial Erase will not erase files on the "USB" storage of the device, which include your photos. It will remove applications you've installed and other files.

It will ask you to confirm your setting. It will then reboot your phone. Do not be alarmed if your phone sits at a pulsing PALM logo, this is normal and does take approximately 5 minutes.
Once it is powered back up, it will ask for your palm profile info (email and password) I mentioned early. This will begin the syncing of your contact data and some of your settings. This should fix the messaging issue! Let me know how this works for you and if I can be any more assistance.

Testimonial: "I can't thank you enough DocZomb!! You legend!! Love the PalmPre, would have been a shame to get rid. Once again, thank you!!"

There is no option for Partial Erase as such, the options are as follows:

    Restart
    Shut down
    Erase Apps

I wont to reset my palm my phone

A Hard Reset (Full Erase) will erase installed applications, application settings and data.

  1. From the Home screen, touch the launcher icon.
  2. Touch Device Info > Reset Options > Full Erase > Full Erase.

Steps to Perform Remote Hard Reset

This can be performed from your Palm profile online.

  1. On your computer, go to palm.com/support
  2. Enter your Palm profile email address and password.
  3. Click Wipe Device to remotely reset your phone.

tip

Palm Pre Plus tips and tricks

1. Soft Reset Hold the power button and cycle the ringer button on/off three times.

"Orange button" "Sym" and letter "R". It's like a Ctrl Alt Del for the Pre.

Another way is go into "Device Info" --> "Reset Options" At this point you have three choices:

a. Soft Reset -restarts it

b. Partial Erases -erases all installed apps and their data but not personal files stored in Mass USB drive mode.

c. Full Erease -Everything Partial erase does and personal files stored on USB partition.

3. Save Battery Life

Pre_with_battery

- Log out of AIM (There is some problem with AIM draining battery power that Palm is currently fixing. And plus, who really uses AIM these days?)

- Change your email settings. Note: each email account can be set-up in a different way.

Top on the upper left corner of the screen in the email program.
Open the Preferences menu.
Set frequently used accounts to check every 15 minutes.
Set rarely used accounts to Push.

- Turn on WiFi. (It's weird, but the Palm Pre has better battery life with WiFi than with 3G.)

4. Gestures

Tap
Swipe A horizontal gesture on the touchscreen or the gesture area. The most common swipe is "back", which is a swipe from the center of the phone to the left in the gesture area.
Drag Drag upward from the gesture area onto the touch screen to bring up the Quick Launch menu when you are in an application.
Flick
Scroll Speed sensitive. Tap or drag the screen while scrolling to stop.
Zoom Double tap on an image or area, or use two fingers in a pinch-like fashion.

5. Turn On Advanced Gestures

Go to "Screen & Lock" app
Turn on "Advanced gestures" setting

The advanced gestures allow you to scroll in between apps while they are open in fullscreen mode. Simply swipe from the far right the far left, or from the far left to the far right, in the gesture area to move between apps without going to the Card View first. The back gesture still goes from right to left in the gesture area, but it takes a shorter swipe from right to left (halfway).

6. Tap the Battery

Pre_popup

Tap the battery icon to see an exact percentage of remaining battery life, the date, WiFi options, Bluetooth settings, and Airplane Mode settings.

7. Uncapitalize a Letter

When typing, the Pre autocapitalizes letters where appropriate (beginning of a sentence, "I", etc...). To undo this, simply press backspace once. Rather than deleting the letter, it will change it to lower case. Pressing backspace again, obviously, will delete the letter.

8. Pre Recovery Tool Leak

This Pre hack applies mainly to the super tech-savy guys out there, particularly the developers. The "WebOS Reset Doctor" has leaked out (including the 195 MB webOS root). This means that you can now view the Pre's "hidden" code, which means you (or some really skilled developers somewhere) can find and tweek some hidden Pre features.

9. Sync the Palm Pre with iTunes

Simply connect the Palm Pre to your Mac or PC, select "Media Sync", and iTunes will auto-launch. You can then choose which DRM-free media files to transfer.

10. Use your Pre as a Mass Storage Drive

Simply connect your Pre to your Mac or PC with a USB cable, and the Pre will appear as a drive on your computer desktop. Drag and drop files into the Pre, or drag files from your Pre to the computer.

11. Solve Post-Shut Freeze

Pre_battery

Numerous people have reported that when you close the screen too hard, the phone becomes black yet backlit, and the only way out is to reboot. Turns out there is a problem with battery, because it becomes loose when you slide the screen down hard. Simply put a piece of paper on the top part of the battery between the battery and the phone.

12. Konami Code

Konami

This one is funny. To access the "secret" Palm Pre dev mode, simply type the famous Konami cheat code right from the launcher screen of your Pre. The code is "upupdowndownleftrightleftrightbastart". This opens something called "Developer Mode Enabler". This was discovered due to the leaked ROM (number 9 on this list). This allows you to connect the Pre to a computer running Palm's Mojo SDK for webOS, which allows you to do some dev stuff.

I bought a used Palm pre. When I turn it on it is asking me for a sign in and password for the palm account. Is there anyway I can restore it so it is ready for activiation with sprint. Or do I even...

What I think it is asking for is the credentials for your palm account, so as to sync it with the phone. This screen should be asking you to create a palm profile.
In order to do this, the phone will need data, so it must first be activated by Sprint.

I think my palm pre was invaded by a virus when i connect this to my computer to upload photos..I cannot take pictures and even even videos..there was a message stating that i cannot take pictures because...

You are not getting this error because your memory card is having 11.4 G available but this error is coming because your phones primary memory is full. Kindly browse the phones primary memory and delete what you don't want. In case you are unable to see the files then connect it to pc and then browse the phones primary memory and from tools menu select folder options and then select show hidden files then you can delete whatever is not required and the error will go.

Hello there, I bought my Palm Pre in Germany, sadly without the manual. I found out that I could not get it paired up with other phones and transfer music by Bluetooth. This is still the case five months...

Hello, Natking04 -

It seems there is more than just one version of the Palm Pre. It would help to know what version yours is:
- Palm Pre
- Pre Plus
- Pre 2
- HP Pre

Palm Pre Screen

I've had this happen to 2 of my Pre's that were never exposed to water. I think it's a product defect. I took it in to a Sprint service center and they replaced it.

I love Web OS and the Palm Pre form factor but I would discourage anyone from buying one because of the glaring quality issues.
