Can't take pictures or video

I put fresh batteries in my DSC-P92 and turned it on in picture mode. The green indicator light comes on. However, the lens will not come out and the LCD does not display anything. After about 30 seconds, an error message pops up: Turn the power off and on again.

If I turn it off and turn it back on in preview mode, the LCD comes on and I can see the pictures. Same goes for Set up mode.

Picture / Movie modes do not work though.

I have a cybershot DSC-P72, lens doesnt open anymore, batteries are ok. picture review, and setup work ok.For a while it would open then close straight away, but not anymore.

This camera needs really strong batteries. Even if the batteries work great in other devices they might not work in this camera. Buy some FRESH (yes check the date and get the ones that will expire the latest) Alkaline Batteries and give it a try. Rechargeable (NiCad) batteries never worked for me. This is the very reason I got rid of my P92 (same camera with higher 5.1m pixel optics)

Camara locked up

Be sure you are using the right kind of batteries in the camera. Check to see if the device requires NiMh, Lithium, etc. It's not just about getting AA size. Alkaline will probably not work properly, and could cause device malfunction.

Pictures have a purple hue to them Cyber-Shot DSC-P52

I suspect that the color is fine in the screen, if that’s true I would check the “White Balance.” This control is use to compensate for different light sources. The electronics will respond different for sunny or cloudy days and for incandescent or fluorescent lamps. I suspect that it was taken out of AUTO mode. I find that AUTO works well for most people in most situations.
Select photo or movie mode press menu, select WB, select AUTO.

Power/lens Problems

it seems that the lense movement is jammed. Have you dropped the camera? just have a close look from the front side of the camera, does the lense assembly seems to be pressed or moved aside by some extra preassure? if no physical disalingment is visible may be some sand or dust partical is obstructing the movement of the lense assambly. needs a help from camera repair shop.
