Panasonic DVD player problems - switches to

Have had a panasonic dvd player (part of a home theater system - model SA-PT950) that until recently played dvds no problem. Then I noticed that the sound would randomly switch from Movie to Music while playing dvds annoying because conversations were more difficult to understand. Then it started freezing occasionally, but usually got past that and continued to play without issues. Now it just won't play many of my dvds.

I set it to "DVD/CD" mode and it begins to read the disc. Then, just before the menu screen pops up, for some unkown reason it switches to "AUX" mode (the mode used when watching tv) and stops the dvd. The only thing I have noticed prior to the switch is that the Dolby surround sound icon flashes in the display of the Panasonic unit. If you restart the dvd, the same thing happens. Any suggestions?

    Hi -

Yep, unplugged it from everything and let it sit for a bit, then hooked it all up again. Unfortunately, it didn't help...

hmmm..well, verify any button in front maybe it was lock down or become sticky,

Use DVD disk cleaner to clean the optical for you.

however if this not the case, then maybe its become worse since you have to open the unit and see to it that button are function well.

You have to test parts that is suspected in the circuit board.
and this could be done by expert electronic technician to check it personally to resolve the issue.

Believe it or not there is a seller on eBay who offers a one-price fixit solution for your unit for $100.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Panasonic-SA-HT930-SA-HT940-Repair-Service-/360178573162?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53dc50df6a

That aside, these types of systems are designed as a package to be used as a unit. Otherwise they might have standard connectors. Another closely-related Panasonic SA-HT system might work for you but I doubt anyone manufactures anyhting to adapt non-standard speakers to standard electronics.

They actually say on page 9 of the manual:

"Use only supplied speakers
Using other speakers can damage the unit, and sound quality will
be negatively affected.

I would interpret that to mean 'use these speakers only with similar Panasonic electronics'.

The loading mechanism is out of timing sequence and needs to be rebuilt. This unit should be taken to a Panasonic authorized service center for repair. At that time the loading mechanism may be modified according to engineering updates that may apply to your model. I don't have a listing for your specific model, but there were some models that had a change to prevent this type of problem.
