Question about Maytag MMV1153A Microwave Oven
Was working fine all these years...now when used, it smells like burning electrical smell, i opened it up and found the smell to be coming from the area of the high voltage transformer, maybe time to replace the unit ?? or is there some part that is a common failure that will be cheaper to replace than a whole new unit again?
Your high voltage transformer probably failed. Good diagnosis!
The economics are your choice, considering age, part prices, replacement cost, etc.
You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.
There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.
