Nikon coolpix horizontal banding

My camera went into horizontal bands of light and dark, sometimes a bit of color. Tried noise correction and reset all..nothing works. Happened a couple times and now is totally locked into the banding. Can't take pictures.

I have the same problem, Everything was going well went away on holiday, had no trouble taking pics and then a couple of weeks later got the camera out again and had black and white lines rolling on the screen after no apparent damage done. Do not know how to reset it but seems like the same thing as you were describing. This is the first problem I have had with it after many years of great photo taking.

It's quite likely a manufacturer error which Nikon will fix for free. Go to http://www.nikonusa.com/email_images/nikonusa/service_advisory/coolpix.html
I just got mine back - took about five weeks because they were out of stock on the CCD (Charge Coupled Device) that they had to replace. Don't give up on the camera. It's worth having it repaired since all it will cost you is to send it to them. Have had the camera four years and it's been to Europe and the Caribbean with us.

We have just inherited the same camera with the same problem. Do all your modes work and display fine except when you are in the shot mode? Cheers

Does this also happen when you switch the camera to automatic?
Sometimes without knowing you can put the camera in manual, and have ictures much to light or much to dark. If you are not familiar with manual shooting, please put the camera back to auto (green camera loge on the dial)

All pics taken , only pics get these horizontal lines and noise comes from my cam . plz help I have to take my camera tomoroo for a shoot session but it doesn t' work .....

Sounds like an electronics problem that is related to the sensor. See if you can hire or borrow a similar camera for your photo-shoot and send your off for repair.
Good luck

I hve a nikon coolpix 10 MP but the image quality is poor....i have tried resetting all the camera settings to default and dont know what else to do....also, it keeps showing a red colored icon (it...

The red clock indicates that the date and time need to be set.
As for the "poor" quality, there are many possibilities. If the colors are wrong, the most likely culprit is an improper white balance setting. If the pictures are blurry, that could be caused by subject motion, camera motion, improper focus, or a combination of the three. If pictures taken with the flash are too light or too dark, that could be because the subject is outside of the flash's range. Without knowing what you mean by "poor" I can't give you anything more than some ideas.

Try to clean the lens with a soft dry cloth and try again. If there is some oil smear on the lens, use a lens cleaning solution to clean the lens. If this does not solve the problem, take it to an authorized service center.

Coolpix 5700 Image Smearing

It sure sounds like the CCD is acting hinky on you from time to time. Check out http://www.nikonusa.com/email_images/nikonusa/service_advisory/coolpix.html
and call the 800 number in the advisory for better advice from Nikon repair people. This problem seems to be manifesting itself with lots of different kinds of screen displays. Mine just went black. Nikon was very good about making the free repair - all I paid was the cost of sending the camera to them. Don't send your battery, memory card, camera strap or lens cover. All they need is the camera body.

Seems that you have a factory deffective device, try to contact manufacturer or return to the store where you bought it from.
