Hi Jen05.

When the computer boots, if it asks for an O.S.
(operating system) hilghlight "Windows Vista" and press enter.

If it asks whether to run Windows Vista or something like:
"Windows Recovery Console (reccomended)", select Windows Recovery Console. Follow the steps until it asks if you wish to run System Restore. Click the appropriate response that basically denies this suggestion. Let it go through the steps (you may need to press "Next").

Once it is done, restart Windows as you normally would.
If the problem persists, try the following:

When the computer boots, if it asks for an O.S.
(operating system) hilghlight "Windows Vista" and press F8.

Now scroll down to something along the lines of:
"Safe mode - core drivers only" and press enter.

When it loads the desktop, it is normal for there to be incorrect graphics, missing desktop image, etc.

Now virus scan the entire computer with every anti-virus and spyware software you have. Fix problems found with the programs as needed. Now reboot the PC as you normally would.

If it STILL doesn't boot correctly, or at all, please say so;
I am willing to provide all my knowlege to help as much as I can.

Sounds like the HAL.DLL problem that I have with my Aspire One.
Try booting off a genuine Windows XP disc and choosing the 'recovery console' option. At the command line, type 'CHKDSK C:' and press Enter. If you're lucky, that will do the trick.

My computer will not boot up Acer 5050 all the lights com on but it never boots the screen stays black. it will not turn off unless you remove the battery.

If you have a VGA cable and a monitor, attempt to plug this into a monitor to verify that the laptop will not boot into your OS (Windows generally). If it does end up booting into your OS, then it sounds like your LCD has died or become unplugged inside the laptop.

Acer Aspire 5050 won't boot at all

Yes, it's not the hard drive.

More than likely it's your motherboard.

There's not much you can do besides trying to boot the computer without the battery, and removing and reinstalling the memory.

Hopefully you'll get lucky!

Acer aspire 5050 can't turn it on

If you dont see any green lights and you dont hear any boot up sounds ( hd, fans, etc) try to take out battery and just plug in the AC adapter to a known good power outlet. Make sure your power plug is good too. If you hear boot-up sounds, see green lights but no display then toggle on the "fn" key and or try on an external monitor.

Acer Aspire 5050 Won't Boot.

Your problem could be windows vista isnot installed properly
i assume in the beginning, your laptop come with windows xp.
if you want to go back to windows xp, you can still use alt+f10, as long as you don't delete the recover partition.
Just boot and press Alt+F10, it'll give you recover screen.
