Question about Gateway CX2610 Notebook

Stopped turning on

Hi,
I had my CX2610 on & plugged in to charge and it seemed to be working great. I came home a couple hours later and it was completely off and wouldn't turn back on. The battery charging light doesn't come on when I have it plugged in. Any ideas?

I had the same problem so I played around with the plug by rotating the plug on the jack, so if you remove it and plug it in with a different position it works for me. But the battery does not charge well anymore...

I guess you tried restarting the computer a couple times. You didn't accidently send the "C" drive to the flash drive? Have you tried putting the flash drive back in (if it hasn't been changed) and tried booting?

When this happens, you may be dealing with a power adapter that has gone bad. Check to see if it's putting out the required voltage ~18-19 volts.
You could be dealing with a broken DC-in jack. This can be fixed, but with difficulty (it involves soldering on the motherboard.
You might have to replace the motherboard. First try to start the computer with the adapter connected, but the batter taken out. If it starts and works, then it's a bad battery.

I have had a Sony Vaio notebook, refuses to start

I would bet it is the DC power jack. It's like the biggest problem that I fix with laptops. Some people change the whole motherboard, but even if you search online, its that little circular power port that is usually the culprit. AND, they do work, then die, work, die, etc.

This usually proves it: When you plug in the AC adapter, when the laptop is dead and not turning on, your battery charging LED also does not go on right? If so, I would be that's the problem, you can have the port changed, but a lot of people really charge a fortune when it is a simple job. Contact me if you'd like, I do repairs.

Good luck!

I cant find video controller driver for gateway cx2610 for windows 7

Gateway doesn't seem to have a driver created for windows 7 The only alternative I could suggest is to try and download one from ATI's website, a Vista or windows 7 driver should work

You DO NOT need to replace the motherboard. Laptop jack can be replaced. This place can do it for you, you ship your laptop to them, they replace your jack, then send it back. It costs $99. A lot cheaper than a new motherboard! http://www.800tech.com/ And so you know, I am not affiliated with them in any way.
