If you suspect your ink is dried out it has.

When you get your new cartridge pack, Office Depot has them or Staples. Run the print head alignment adjustments and more importantly the head cleaning process.

In fact, you could try running the head cleaning now if you care to. It shouldn't make any difference in your case, but give it a go anyway. You do need to clean the heads anyway, just don't do it by hand, you will warp these nanometer holes and you could end up with a leak as well.

If you have any other questions, just ask me. I'm here to help.

BTW, if you need to reinstall the software again too for some reason, disconnect the USB cable first and then only connect it when prompted or the installation has finished. Then when you connect the printer and windows wants to add it as new hardware just press escape until you back out of this routine.

If this answers your questions, please rate this as 'Fixed', otherwise if you have further questions ask away.

Regards,
Worldvet

Unsupported ink cartridge after power outage

(1) Open the printer and wait for the carriage to slide over. If for some reason it does not follow these instructions:
(a) Unplug the printer
(b) Manually slide the carriage over until you can get the ink cartridges out.
(2) Remove the ink cartridges from the print head.
(3) Use cotton swabs dipped in hot water or a mix of hot water and isopropyl alcohol to thoroughly clean the print head.
(4) Repeat this until there is no ink residue coming off on the cotton swab.
(5) Once finished, allow to dry and replace the cartridges
(6) Try to print something now

If that does not work then you have one of two possibilities:
(1) One of the ink cartridges is defective and causing the error
(2) If it's definitely not that, then the print head will need to be replaced.

Printer Photosmart 8450. Using HP black cartridge. Received message saying the printer did not recognize the cartridge because it was not HP. Removed it and tried several times to print. Gave up and...

Regarding your HP94 black ink cartridge error problem and inability to print to your HP PS 8450 printer, this type of problem is probably an internal micro-electronic failure inside the HP94 ink cartridge.

To determine which cartridge is causing the issue and/or to confirm an electrical problem with one of the ink cartridges (or possibly both), perform both the Internal Self-Test page along with the Pen Electrical tests (diagnostics) to evaluate the electrical condition of both ink cartridges....

Please first verify the age of the ink cartridge(s)....look at imprinted date on front (or back) of ink cartridge. If this 'warranty expiration date' has expired, then potential cartridge failures can occur due to internal corrosion, etc.

A. Ensure BOTH carriage/flex cables and BOTH ink cartridge contacts are thoroughly clean before proceeding: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1519

B. Print Self-Test Page:
1. Press CANCEL and SAVE simultaneously (SAVE is the left-most button before POWER on/off.)
2. Using left/right arrow keys, navigate to 'pen electrical test'.
3. Select Enter to print test - evaluate nozzle test pattern.

-- If the printer prints the self test page then this demonstrates the printer is generally functional and that the problem is likely with one of the ink cartridges. Please note this is a 'forced' service test...the printer will attempt to print the test page whether the cartridges are good or bad. If the Self-Test page can be successfully printed but regular/normal printing cannot, then one of the ink cartridges is likely internally damaged. Remove and replace suspect cartridge to confirm.

C. Perform Cartridge Diagnostics tests using either C.1 or C.2 procedure below (varies by printer model):

C.1. Tap 41/43 Diagnostics Test:
1. To enter the Manufacturing Tests menu, press the 3 small, round buttons on the front panel simultaneously for >5secs: 'OK', 'CANCEL', & 'SELECT PHOTOS' (or 'Print Photos')
2. Using left/right arrow keys, navigate to Special Reports (or System Menu). Select Enter.
3. Navigate to 'print-mech button tap' menu.
4. Select Ok ('code = 0' will be displayed); click and hold Right Arrow until 'code = 41' (or attempt 'code = 43' if nothing prints using '41') is displayed.
5. Select Ok. Within one minute the Tap 41 (or 43) diagnostic test pattern should be initiated and print. Refer to video to help evaluate test pattern. Refer to 2nd video for guidance on how to read the diagnostic test pattern: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1741

NOTE 1: A good HP 93/95/97/99 color cartridge should display 600 good nozzles, while a good HP 92/94/96/98 black ink cartridge should show 672 good nozzles. If the results yield anything different then the ink cartridge is likely damaged and will need to be replaced. For reference only, refer to the following HP Deskjet video which shows how to read the HP 93-97 ink cartridge diagnostic test print: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1741 (see 2nd video)

C.2. Pen Electrical / Error Bypass Procedure:
1. To enter the Manufacturing Tests menu, press the 3 small, round buttons on the front panel simultaneously for >5secs: 'OK', 'CANCEL', & 'SELECT PHOTOS' (or 'Print Photos')
2. Using left/right arrow keys, navigate to Reports Menu (or System Menu). Select 'pen electrical test'.
3. Select Level 1, 2, or 3. Enter to print test - evaluate nozzle electrical test print.

NOTE 2: Pen recovery level 1, 2 or 3 clears cartridge errors, unblocking the printer to permit you to print the TEST PAGE with the normal MENU / TOOLS /PRINT TEST PAGE choice to aid in printer evaluation.

NOTE 3: Cartridge Error Bypass Message (Emergency Printing only): The Pen Recovery Level 1 clears cartridge errors and permits you to print the TEST PAGE with the normal MENU / TOOLS / PRINT TEST PAGE choice.

Good job in re-seating the cartridges into the printer. Try to insert a different known working cartridge to determine if your other cartridge has gone bad.

Hey, I have the X7170 printer and haven't used it for about a year. Now, the fax, and scan works fine, but when I print a paper, it comes out blank even if the ink catridge is full. Seems that there is...

A technique to improve print quality is to try and clean the cartridge nozzles. You may clean the cartridge by following the steps given below:
1. Go to the "Lexmark solution center." This can be done by clicking on "Start," go to "Programs" and Lexmark printer group. Click on the "Lexmark Solution center." Next click on the "Maintenance" Tab.
2. Select "Clean and Fix Horizontal streaks." Click on "Print". This will produce a printed page.
The colors that you should see here are black, yellow, magenta (a reddish purple) and cyan (a dark sky blue). You should notice the diagonal lines above and below the solid horizontal lines. These diagonal lines should be solid from left to right with no gaps.
If there are gaps in the lines or the print diminishes across the page, you should run the "Clean Print Nozzle" page a couple more times to try and clear it up. If you still have gaps at the top and bottom, you should "wick" the cartridges by following the steps given below:
1. Please open the "Solution center" again and go to the "Maintenance" Tab.
2. Select "Install color/black cartridge" and remove the cartridge or cartridges from the printer.
3. Get a damp paper towel.
4. Set the ink cartridge right side up on the damp paper towel so that the ink nozzles are against the towel and hold the cartridge in this position for about 15 seconds.
5. Now wipe the print head (on the bottom where the ink comes out) across in one direction only (left to right) until it looks clean.
6. Next dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure that the ink is flowing.
7. Snap the cartridges back into the printer.
8. On your computer, select "Old Cartridge install."
9. Repeat the "Clean Nozzle Page" one more time. If this fails to address the problem the entire procedure may need repeating.
Good Luck!!!!

My hp deskjet 6940 inkjet printer doesn't show me level of ink in cartridge

Print a diagnostic page If the steps above have not helped, print and evaluate a diagnostic page to see if the cartridges or the printer is causing the problem.
  1. Make sure the printer is on and loaded with unused, plain, white paper.
  2. Press and hold the Power button and then press the Cancel button. Release both buttons. The diagnostic page prints. Figure 1: Power and Cancel buttonsc00584735.gif 1 - Cancel button 2 - Power button
Step 4: Note which cartridges printed which areas of the diagnostic page You must identify which cartridge printed which part of the diagnostic page, so that if you find defects on the page, you will know which cartridge is the problem. However, you can install different combinations of print cartridges in your printer, and different cartridge combinations print different diagnostic page patterns. Your diagnostic page may not look exactly like the picture below, but the right and left cartridges will print in the same areas of the page no matter which cartridges are installed. Figure 2: Diagnostic page layout (the patterns in each area may look slightly different on your page)c00584715.gif 1 - Printed by the right cartridge 2 - Printed by the left cartridge NOTE: If you are printing in reserve mode (one cartridge is missing), the missing cartridge's area of the diagnostic page will be blank. Step 5: Check ink levels NOTE: If you have installed a refilled or remanufactured ink cartridge, or a cartridge that has been used in another product, the ink level indicator is inaccurate or unavailable. Look in the middle of the diagnostic page. The bars with "E" (for "empty") and "F" (for "full") at each end show the ink levels in the cartridges. As ink is used, the solid color changes to a faded color. Ink has run out message

Ink not made for your printer has risks. 20 years as Canon rep taught me this. Yields: are affected by resolution, type of paper, condition of print head, condition of ink jets, all ink jets and lasers are mfg'd under lisence to Canon. You have the best! Anytime supplies are cheaper, something is left out. used cartridges usualy leak air and drip ink ck for stains under print head. cartridge has used blotter also drips. Cheaper cartridges contain less ink, no free lunch. Fill it yourself 1 or 2 times and do it right. Put the printer in your shower for twenty minutes if you see excess leaked ink. Allow to air dry for a few days then install new cartridges. Run all the Nozzle checks and print head utilities. Touch nothing else on the inside. This will fix it or f@#%k it up for good
