well my audio devices start up as dead and don't work untill half an hour later. The keyboard is totally whack. Capital M does work but not common M. I have a live cd with the aspire and it has not done much for the situation

  • maharajaMD Jul 31, 2008

Being a UMPC it has no drives for cd's I am trying to find something big enough to store a copy of the livecd but if I send it in... the change in operating system would most likely void the waranty. I think that it is software based or keyboard cable based because it was working until I installed the updater update , but the provided cd seems to have crippled the preloaded linpus (it was only after
a software install to undo the update that HAL could not initialize) .

That being said it went back to the orriginal set of non working keys (I had someone who is good at computers open it up and check the keyboard cable). They said there was nothing wrong with the cable (maybe it is defective)?

  • maharajaMD Jul 31, 2008

Well I have no idea if it's software based or if it's a loose cable for the keyboard. It could be a loose cable because the keys affected changes and for a period it did work like normal (it was just a bit laggy then i.e. when i typed M it was slower in appearing on the screen then say q).

It could be software because well the acer technical support department said that they were having issues with the aspire one and some of the live updates pertaining to keyboards but he mentioned the language select feature that is working fine on mine . Also I had someone technically capable of fixing computer innards and they said the cable was fine (at least they claimed to have fixed it). It worked for about 2 hours untill I installed an update for the updater (wow that is a tongue twister) it stopped working again. Now there solution was a software restore which actually damaged my OS because after I restored it said HAL could not initialize.

That being said if i plug in a USB keyboard there are no problems. I'm gonna send it in to Acer.

Wow, sounds like you should get in there and config it.  Boot up a liveCD that loves your Aspire One (not Generic All Acer PC Desktops, thanks,) like Linpus Install or Knoppix, and have a look at /var/log/messages to see what it's problem is; then put it back to working order from whatever changed.

What makes you think HAL and audio/USB drivers are missing?  Are they not compiled into the kernel?  Versions and context, please....

Suppose you try to get into the BIOS; is there anything distinct, or is that Linpus just the same?  I suppose if it were distinct, at least being able to use the keyboard in that would let you boot other LiveCDs (which would permit typing properly if the hardware were working.)  That M alone works is confounded, especially if nobody sat on the thing (destroying the keyboard membrane.)  Maybe you have a particularly heavy pet cat....

The audio situation sounds like the common situation where some daemon takes up all the CPU and when kernel-cpukilled, the backup audio daemon works fine.
So I suppose one thing to try would be getting another keyboard on there so you can work, and/or testing which ports (having opened up the thing) actually work.

Keybord not working on acer aspire R3600

Go to Device Manager and re-install the keyboard driver. If you don't have it go to the Acer website and download it, and check for any updated drivers for your system while you are there, and install them at the same time.

Have acer aspire one, when started got screen saying file missing or corrupt window root system 32 hal.dll, nothing else cannot bring up safe mode do not have windows xp cd, in nursing home cannot afford...

I am going to start with the assumption you have already tried to reboot, then next choices from there go kinda like this...

Run windows XP restore from command prompt. (From safe ,mode type C:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe and press Enter. If this doesn't work or you're receiving the hal.dll error message before you're able to complete this process, move on to the next step.

Replace the boot.ini file (run msconfig) This will work if the cause of the problem is actually Windows XP's boot.ini file and not the hal.dll file, which is often times the case.

Note: If repairing the boot.ini does correct the hal.dll issue but the problem reappears after a reboot and you've recently installed Internet Explorer 8 in Windows XP, uninstall IE8. In this specific situation, IE8 could be the root cause of your hal.dll problem.

Right click on c: drive, click on properties, then tools, click on the error checking button, the put a checkmark in each box, Click start and it may say it needs to run on next reboot click OK the reboot. The physical part of your hard drive that stores any part of the hal.dll file has been damaged, you're likely to see errors like this.

Run a repair install of the operating system. This type of installation should replace any missing or corrupt files. Continue troubleshooting if this does not resolve the issue.

Hi,
You need drivers for your system.
All the official acer drivers for your system are here :-

http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/desktop/power_s260.html#driver

As listed at the site:-

Realtek Audio Driver is your Multimedia Audio Controller.
NVIDIA VGA Driver should be your Video Controller, if that don't work try SIS VGA Driver.

SiS 661 chipset driver should fix your usb problem, if it dosn't update windows to SP2.
Get that from here: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/. Then try again with SiS 661 Chipset Driver.

You should also install the rest of the drivers for your aspire sa80.

You said you had no access to internet so burn the drivers using a friends computer (one with internet) and install from the disc and you should be fine.

Acer Aspire T180 Missing Drivers

My problem was with the T180 was the VGA support under XP. Reinstalling the Chipset drivers fixed that - audio and ethernet still broken but I'm using a wireless adapter for networking and I have separate sound care for sound - but anyway the link is:

http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/downloads_gd.html

I downloaded and installed chipset for XP 32 and it worked fine - presume the same is true for the Home Edition drivers.

I did try the pdf index suggested by a previous poster but I found all the links to XP drivers were broken.
