Removing Hard drive from HP Pavilion a1010n

My HP Pavilion a1010n will not power up and I want to take the hard drive out and put it in a hard drive enclosure to see if it is still viable. Hopefully the issue is not with the hard drive since there is NO response what so ever when I press the power button.

I have removed the side panel and two visable screws on the side of the hard drive, but there seems to be something else blocking me from getting it out.

The drives come out through the front of the case, meaning you have to take the front off.

Can I upgrade the motherboard on a hp pavilion a1010n ?

You CAN upgrade the motherboard in any PC, with a few things to consider. As mentioned above, by Techguru2009, be sure that the connections from the board to the peripherals are the same. Also, HP motherboards are 'tattooed', meaning that a new motherboard will not work with the HP OEM version of Windows that sits on your hard drive. You would have to purchase and install a new copy and/or license key.

HP Pavilion a1010n. Compuiter fan keeps going on and off. Even when computer is not being actively used. Comes on with full power and keeps going (loudly) for a minute or two, sometimes longer, then...

The fan triggers on ONLY when the temperature of the PROCESSOR heat sink goes beyond the settings of the thermistor fixed on it. This is to prevent any damage on the processor and so if there is any malfunction of the PC in its OS or the drivers , then it can be reset, Other wise check the ventillation ports of the PC cabin and clean them. A good ventillation must allow the fan to rest but if the fan works and shuts at times it is only because th processor works and heats. Clean the system, teh hard disk and files and defragment the system.

My Pavillion a1010n is stopping at the bios screen on start up. I re-seated the memory. I pressed "F1" on power up and it says "Entering Setup" but, does not advance from there.

try removing your hard disk and boot the system if the process is fast and you can enter the bios setup then probably your hdd needs a service

Upgrade HP a1010n Motherboard

Techguru2009: When you upgrade your motherboard, basically you have a new computer. You need to know how your hard/cd drives are connected. Either IDE or SATA. IDE is legacy hardware 80 pin and SATA is the new Thing small connecter. Next is your RAM. There is Dimm, DDR1, DDR2. Find out what your old system was using, or just buy new memory cards, DDR2 is not that expensive. Ask for the manual first read and check what is required, take a list of what your old computer has. I can also help you install everything via chat.

Replacement CD

The original CD (XP Home SP2) can be purchased directly from HP here: https://warp2.external.hp.com/driver/dr_country_select.asp?Product=5070-0329&lang=en&cc=us

If not, you can simply buy a copy of Windows XP and install it fresh.
