Check D7 and small cap to the right(forgot # returned tv) in the power supply area.i found diode leaky and cap dry.Thats how i fixed the blinking red light.hope it works.

Sounds like bad capacitors on the power supply board which is a very famous issue for most LCD TV power supplies.

I was just given an Element Electronics FLX-3711B 37" wide screen tv but there is no power supply. Is it a specific power supply or will a computers power cord work since they have the same style...

you will need the power specs of each unit, look on the tv and computer near where they plug in, should be tagged right there or somewhere close. by law it has to be tagged. if not right there keep looking . and yes it is specific.

Bad power board, it could be a regulator circuit in the board and you can troubleshoot it if your good at electronics as those switch mode power supplies can be a little tricky sometimes, it may make more sense to replace the board though, generally they aren't that expensive, under 50 bucks generally

I have an element ELCP 0371 lcd tv and the picture goes black intermittently

There are two places to look for the problems, the backlight inverter board and the power supply. Look at the power supply first since it is easier to get to, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc. Look for 5vdc, 12vdc, and 24dvc.

Bad control board. ~$300. Take TV back to wherever you bought it if still under warranty or Purchase new TV.
