Hello,

same if you use winxp then you should install the drivers to work all hardwares,

You should install the wireless drivers, you can find it here:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=447348&taskId=135&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=447371&submit.y=6&submit.x=10&lang=en&cc=us

however if this still not work you recommended to use win2000 for smooth operation.

No need for you to uninstall XP and go back to 2000, all you have to do is install the XP drivers for the components that are not working.

for you to be able to know what are the components inside your computer, go to system information, look for the devices that are not working so that you will be abel to download the drivers for each specific device in your computer. because once you have the specific models and brands of the components in your computer, it will be easier to get the XP drivers online.

to go to system information, click start, accesories, system tool then syste, information.

good luck, hope this helps.

Hi,

For your Compaq NC6220, Win XP drivers are here. Alternately, if you are reverting back to Win2K, then there should be no issues as most other drivers for other OS are here.

On the WiFi, you need to determine which hardware the NC6220 is using. To my understanding, depending on the regional version, they could be IntelPro or Broadcom.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

You will need to download the drivers for the devices that aren't working. You can find the drivers at the link bellow.

Open the device manager, any devices that need driver will have a yellow question mark on them. You can find a complete set of drivers for your machine running XP, plus updates, and patches, at the link I posted in my previous response.

Changing Vista to XP Pro on a Compaq Presario SR2180NX Desktop PC

SR2180NX has the Vista 32Bit OS from HP. The restore partition will always put Vista 32Bit back on if you use it. Windows XP can only be put on from scratch and I have done it while I still have Vista installed. One problem: there are no XP drivers under SR2180NX webpages. Do your research on the parts that are installed in the 2180 and any other HP machines that have the Windows XP operating system as the OEM OS. But First, check the Intel Site for the 945 chipset drivers (include the SouthBridge, too) under XP. Get them downloaded to a CD and burn the rest of the drivers you find for XP on the same CD. This way, you will have them ready when you are performing the down-grade to windows xp. After you are done with the XP install, you will still have access to the files & work you had done while in Vista. The Vista files are still readable. You might want to consider getting the Windows 7 Professional (not basic) available October 22, 2009. AND you will still have to get the Intel Downloads for Win7 any way, so why not make it a project and make it last for a few years. XP Support stops in 2014.

I need driver for hp 6l pro printer

You can find it here, if the desired operating system doesn't have drivers to download then it's because the operating system already includes the drivers... for example Windows XP already comes with 6L pro drivers included. If your having trouble in XP you might want to try downloading the drivers for windows 2000.

Here's the page...

I just installed xp pro and it keeps freezing

To get into the Windows 2000 / XP Safe mode, as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" as shown below. Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.
Note: With some computers if you press and hold a key as the computer is booting you will get a stuck key message. If this occurs, instead of pressing and holding the "F8 key", tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the startup menu.
Trouble Getting into Windows 2000 or Windows XP Safe mode - If after several attempts you are unable to get into Windows 2000 or Windows XP Safe Mode as the computer is booting into Windows, turn off your computer. When the computer is turned on the next time Windows should notice that the computer did not successfully boot and give you the Safe Mode screen.

I would suggest that you run only one stick of Ram at a time to determine if they are the problem.. Also these CPU's had heat problems that damaged the cpu. This also causes freezing. I would consider resetting the CPU and the heat sink, and case fans are clean and working.

I have a Compaq PC with Windows XP and the flat I've moved into has wireless broadband - how do I connect to it?

You can use a wireless network to share Internet access, files, printers, and more. Or you can use it to surf the Web while you're sitting on your couch or in your yard. Plus, it's easier to install than you think.
There are 4 steps to creating a wireless network:
1.
Choose your wireless equipment
2.
Connect your wireless router
3.
Configure your wireless router
4.
Connect your computers
For Windows XP users, Windows XP Service Pack 2 is not required for wireless networking, but it does make things much easier. Service Pack 2 also helps protect you against hackers, worms, and other Internet intruders.

Connect your computers
If your computer does not have wireless network support built in, plug your network adapter into your USB port, and place the antenna on top of your computer (in the case of a desktop computer), or insert the network adapter into an empty PC card slot (in the case of a laptop). Windows XP will automatically detect the new adapter, and may prompt you to insert the CD that came with your adapter. The on-screen instructions will guide you through the configuration process.
Note: The steps below only apply if you're using Windows XP Service Pack 2. If you're running Windows XP and you don't have Service Pack 2 yet, plug your computer into your wireless router and download and install Windows XP Service Pack 2.
Windows XP should show an icon with a notification that says it has found a wireless network.
wireless_connected.gifFollow these steps to connect your computer to your wireless network:
1.
Right-click the wireless network icon in the lower-right corner of your screen, and then click View Available Wireless Networks. If you run into any problems, consult the documentation that came with your network adapter. Don't be afraid to call their tech support.
2.
The Wireless Network Connection window should appear and you should see your wireless network listed with the network name you chose. If you don't see your network, click Refresh network list in the upper-left corner. Click your network, and then click Connect in the lower-right corner.
wireless_chooseconnection.gif 3.
Windows XP prompts you to enter a key. Type the encryption key that you wrote down earlier in both the Network key and Confirm network key boxes, and then click Connect.
4.
Windows XP will show its progress as it connects to your network. After you're connected, you can now close the Wireless Network Connection window. You're done.
Note: If the Wireless Network Connection window continues to show Acquiring Network Address, you may have mistyped the encryption key.

Compaq restore cd

Hi mithz.
I'm not you people.
(Please keep track of the user who you ask a question too).

When you installed windows 2000, (If you formatted the entire drive during install), you might have taken out the small partition that holds data for a system restore. No version of windows likes
you going backwards. In order for you're system restore CD's to work you'll need to format the hard disk drive. Windows will not install if Windows 2000 is found on the drive. The fastest way to get Windows 2000 off the drive without deleting any other partitions Compaq installed would be to go to the hard disk drives manufacture's site & download their setup tools/utilities. You'll be able to creat a bootable floppy disk that will function in a dos-like mode out side of windows. You'll be able to format the Windows 2000 partition. Once that is done you will be able to incert the restore CD (s) & install Compaqs windows XP.
You may need to pull the drive in order to see who made the drive. EX; Seagate, Smsung, Maxtor ect. Here is the link for Seagate. http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools
Every manufacture has similar bootable floppy software.
Read the instruction provided by the manufacture on how to create the floppy disk & how to run it.

Good Luck!

Mike
