Bought the camera used. Worked ok for a while, then started eating batteries, so I put it in a drawer.....forgot I had it and now want to use it again. But when I try and take a pic is says.......CARD LOCKED!. Well I did not lock it. I have downloaded all the pics and did erase them from the 1 GB memory stick. Still locked. What now? Look at the memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

When you download to the computer, what program do you open with? Try not using the auto-open feature, and open direct from new device in "my computer".

i don't think you can transfer photos from mem stick to internal mem, but may i suggest purchasing a multi port card reader? it is a small device, compatible with most all mem cards- deff for Sony Cyber-shot- you simply insert your mem stick and plug into the USB port on your computer, this will also save unnecessary wear on your camera, They are fairly cheap, at around $15, no software is needed, your computer will recognize it as a mem stick, just as it does the camera

SOURCE: Can I retrieve deleted pics from the Sony memory stick PRO Duo

Definitely Yes!

First of all, you should stop saving any new files to your Sony camera (or SD card) or taking new pictures.

Then find some photo recovery software from the following websites, which are able to recover deleted or formatted photos and movies from cell phone, digital camera, digital camcorder, memory card, memory stick and SD card etc.

Digital Photo Recovery for Windows

Digital Photo Recovery for Mac OS X

Here are the steps:

Step 1: Download and install the Digital Photo Recovery Software.

Step 2: Connect your Sony camera (or SD card, memory card etc) to your PC or Mac.

Step 3: Scan the source drive where your lost pictures located.

Step 4: Recover the lost pictures and save them to another drive instead of the source drive.

Best regards!

Canon A620 LCD shows "memory card locked" for each card I insert

This worked for me!  I have the Canon Powershot SD780 IS and although my card WAS NOT locked, the camera "malfunctioned" and the switch in the camera needed to be gently pushed back IN, not DOWN on my specific camera type.  This is great, I was just going to go out and buy another camera today!  Thanks for the post Stephan!

"Card Locked"

Hi!
There's a small switch on the memory card reader inside the camera which detects that the card is locked. Most likely this switch is broken. You can try to point it with needle or something but I'm afraid you will have to give it away for a repair to a local repair shop or Canon service center.

Memory is locked on the camera

ok so on sd cards there's a slider on the side of it. this has an arrow (usually pointing down) that says lock next to it. make sure the slider isn't on the side that the arrow points to.
hope this helps ;-)

CARD LOCKED

There should be a small toggle along the end side (it is tiny and easily missed, but it is there, I just checked my memory card / mine is 4GB SD card from Sony) that you can swtich to unlock and your images may come back that way.

Look for it this way, hold the card face down it should be on the back edge where you use your thumb or finger to push it into the slot on your camera.

Card Locked

There is probably a little slide on the side of the card that locks it. Take the card out and slide it back to the unlocked position.

If this is an SD card you may need to take out the card and slide the small switch on the card itself to the "Unlock Position"

Good Luck!

Memory Card Errors with Canon PowerShot S3

There most definitely is a solution to this problem. Follow this link for a step by step fix for the memory card error. It requires taking the camera apart but if the warranty is expired you have nothing to lose. Fix worked fine for me.

Memory card locked!??

The card locked usually means 'protected' Check out the manual for image protection - on/off. Or put card back into computer and delete[NOT FORMAT] from there. A more comprehensive manual is usually found the the CD that came with the camera
