Slide holder is stuck in Dimage scanner

My slide holder, at times, sounds like it is striped when scanning. Slide holder is now stuck in the scanner and I can not get the door open as directed on the software computer screen. Have had problem 1 or 2 times before but seems to come back on restarts. Tried everything I've ever tried before bur without success. Where can I get service or repairs?

    Similar problem.
First I turn off the unit and gently push the holder all the way to the back. When I turn the unit on, it spits it out
My recent problem however is : the spring clip on the slide holder popped out and jammed the copper contacts inside the broke off. I believe the contacts might have been worn anyway as I've had problems with the slide holder staying in the scanner without jamming and making clattering ,thread stippping noises at the same time. If you doadjust, be careful not to adjust those spring clips to the point of them popping out of the holder.

If I can find a copper contact part I would replace it. I love the scans but this puppy has been a pain ( first the driver adjustments to even get it to be recognized by the computer - but that's another story) .
I'm finally getting the hang of all the quirks withthis gizmo and now I need a part! What are the chances ?Sigh.

I solved the issue by opening the casing of the scanner after having unplugged it front the computer and it's power supply.

There are 3 rounded head screws that I unscrewed to do this.

1) The single screw at the back of the unit.
2) The two screws that are closest to the rear of the unit underneath the unit.

The tricky part is that the casing that makes up the sides, top and the back of the unit has to then be pulled back and a bit up to be released and the plastic hings of the casing will catch parts of the internal frame. Therefore great care and patience must be taken when pulling the case back and off of the rest of the frame of the unit.

With the casing removed, I slowly pushed the film holder towards the back of the unit until the front door of the casing could be fully opened manually, and then using one hand I kept the door open while slowly pushing the film holder towards the front of the unit with the other hand.

After that I put the casing back on, and the unit is running normally again, although I suspect that this jamming is a sign of wear and tear on this unit as it has been used a lot.

There is a mirror within the unit and I would advise as a precaution that no contact should be made with that mirror unless you are willing to risk the unit not being able to focus properly or showing smudges or scratch marks on the produces scans!

The jams are usually caused by the springs of the slide holder; check that they are not deformed or out of alignment, which can easily happen, Also a likely culprit can be a [PULL] latch that didn't close properly. I've solved those by opening the scanner (a real PITA) and doing a maintenance routine to the holders. If there was a comparable scanner (mine is a version 1) I'd get rid of it in a minute but unfortunately there aren't. I have an Epson v750 and it's just not in the same leage as the 5400, even with a reportedly higher optical resolution.

I have the 5400 II and have had similar problem. I found out, that it is essential, that the film/slide holder is clean and have a smooth surface. Specially on the edge where it touches the plain bearings. I have lubricated the whole holder with acid-free silicone, wich over time made the scanner work perfectly.

I do not have an answer for you, unfortunately, as my Dual Scan IV is doing almost the same unit will not load the 35mm film slider - when it tries to load, it makes a fairly loud clicking or ratchetting sound. This occurs each time I push the film into the unit. Have you had any replies or have you found a solution to the problem. Thanks and good luck.

The slide transport goes in about 1 inch and then ejects itself.

Not sure if this will fix it, but there are a bunch of metal tabs on each rail (that the holder goes into) that (I believe) are contacts that help the scanner to determine where the holder is. They get bent very easily. If they are, bend them back carefully.

You sort of have to look "up" into the scanner with a flashlight to see them on each side.
