Question about Computers & Internet

I submitted the wrong email when I first came here to send you the problem I'm having setting up my broadband router. My email address is willow70815@hotmail.com. I'm hoping that you can help me solve this problem. I'm not sure about setting up Linksys WRT54G2 Broadband Router in conjuction with desktop Sony (Windows XP). I have a HP Pavillion dv6700 notebook and would like to configure the router so I can use it wirelessly within my home. I have tried by can not get it connected. The problemm comes in when the instructions say to connect the blue ethernet cord to the pc(should this be going to the desktop or the notebook. There is only a data cable(green) and ethernet cable(yellow) that came with the router. There is no blue ethernet cable to cnnect the pc to the router as instructed. I would also like to know what would need to be purchased to use it anywhere without a router.

    Hello,

A quick answer. Consider the green cable to be the blue one that is being referenced.

Inside your home all connections out to the Net, have to be through a gateway PC. This would be to your Sony desktop PC.

Then, insert the disc that came with your router and follow the directions that follow after the connect the blue cable. I haven't send these software discs fail anyone if you follow the directions. Too bad they sent you a package with a green cable.

Didn't you also receive 'splitters' for the outlets on the phone line your DSL is using? This is a trouble point for many people who forget one or connect a phone to the wrong side. Many packages only contain one splitter today, for the primary phone socket near the PC, most of the others only have one port to cut down on the confusion.

Let me know if you need any further help on this?

    Regards,
    Worldvet

The blue and jellow ethernet cord is the same thing.
Make sure you have wireless switch on (enabled) on the laptop
If you have wireless enabled, it should say one or more wireless networks detected in windows xp. Also, if you have a certain router, you might need a code to unlock it so you can use it.

Retrieve a fail to send email from a web page?

Probably not. The email could have failed or numerous reasons. I always CTRL+A and CTRL+C before I post or submit any form online because things don't always work as planned and you have no control over someone else's site.

You could have been clicking on a mailto link and didn't have a default email client set. This would give you a MAPI error.

It could be that Outlook Express was setup as your default mail client but it's not setup to use, so it couldn't open the default folders and your email failed for this reason.

If you use an application on your desktop, then set it to be the default email client. If not, and you only use web-based email, then copy/paste to your email client instead of clicking submit.

Websites should send server-based email and these issues would be eliminated. Also, using mailto, allows spammers to harvest email addresses on websites. Although it can be written to make it difficult, most people don't make the effort.

I am not receiving some emails. I have contacted "3" my mobile broadband supplier who suggested that I emailed myself. This I did and received it okay. Please advise

If you cannot receive certain emails only, it can be because your address had been written wrongly by the sender, contact the sender and check this out.

If you have a spammed mail folder, check also in your spam mail, if you use automated antispam, the mails may have been directed by mistake in the spam folder.

When I REPLY to SOME emails I get"message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was ....... etc." But when I create a new...

If you are using email like OutlookExpress, or Windows Mail, you may have linked to multiple email address' . So when you hit Send / Recive, its checking 2 or more email adds.. If so, one of them is not setup correctly for the Outgoing server. When you create a new email, it uses your default main email address, which is apparently setup correctly. When you reply to a mail which came in on the "other" account the outgoing server setup is wrong, resulting in the message you recieve.
You should go over the server setting for each account other than your default email account.

Try reseating te broadband connection to the router.

It soundslike your router works if it connects to your laptop with a great signal. But its not sending any information through.

Try reseating. if it does not work. you might need to do a fresh reinstall of the router. Usually the broadband connections attach itself to a mac address of a network card. If you recently put a new router the network cards MAC address is different and it might not send signals through. like for me for cable i have the same issue.

Try this let me know how it does. If any problems please let me know.

I hope this helps

Have you accessed and setup your wireless part of the modem?

To access the router settings menu, you will first need to log into the Wireless router following the steps below:
Open Internet Explorer
In the address bar type the following address:
192.168.0.1

You will be prompted to enter a Username and Password to access the interface, please use the following default details:
Username: This can be found on the bottom of the router
Password: This can be found on the bottom of the router

From the list on the left hand side, click on ‘Router Status’.
Within the Router Status section there are two areas you will be able to access:

Show Statistics
Connection Status

The Router Status page gives you a detailed status overview of the connection configured on the Wireless router.
Click ‘Connection Status’ to see more information on the broadband connection.
If you have already configured your broadband, you are able to establish/terminate the connection by clicking Connect/Disconnect.
You can also click ‘Show Statistics’ to show you current connection speed and more information on your Broadband connection.
Clicking on Basic Settings enables you to check all the Internet settings of your Broadband connection. Including the Login name (username) and password, IP address and type of connection.
Clicking on ‘Test’ will perform a standard check of your Internet connection and settings.
ADSL SETTINGS
The ‘ADSL Settings’ section provides you with some more information about your Internet connection. These are:
Multiplexing Method
VPI
VCI
WIRELESS SETTINGS
This section gives you full information regarding the Wireless connection. From here, you can change security settings, the SSID (Name) of the router and the access control list. Options list from:
Name(SSID) virgin broadband (default)
Region Europe(default)
Channel 11(default)
Mode g&b(default)
Enable Wireless Access point
Allow broadcast name
Security options (None, WEP and WPA)
- hope this helps

I was having this same problem.

Here's what I did:
Under Tools-->Accounts, select email account and then select Properties-->Servers. At the bottom, check the box "My Server Requires Authentication," and then select Settings. Select "use same settings as my incoming server"

After I did all that, my problem disappeared. Hope that helps you.
