I am piggy backing......but even if it was to a private network, it reads and picks up a great signal so i dont think there is any hardware issues.....but when i click the internet link it jus saying unable to connect.

Your wireless router probaly isn't giving you an ip address. You may have to set it manually. Is this your router or are you piggy-backing on an open neighbourhood connection?

You can connect to a wireless router that isn't password secure, but if the router isn't configured to hand out ip addresses you can't get internet access. You need to know what address the router is on, and statically assign your laptop an address and gateway pointing to that router.

It's best to make friends with the neighbour and get the address.

You should check if your printer has an internet connection, if it does you can just plug it in and use it as a network printer.

Keeps dropping wireless WPA-Personal internet connection

If it is not a router problem then you could try a wireless adaptor such as the Lapton N300 USB Adapter. This adapter will connect to all OS including Linux. $20 Max. I had a problem at home where a laptop would not connect at all and this adapter did the job. Maybe worth a try

DOESN'T DETECT WIFI

The wireless feature on a Gateway computer allows you to connect to a network without the hassle of cables. This allows you to browse the Internet conveniently wherever you are. Gateway computers rely on Windows operating systems, which come with a built-in feature to manage your wireless connection. This feature makes turning off your wireless connection an easy process if, for a moment, you prefer to connect to the Internet using a wired connection.

Click the Windows "Start" menu and click the "Control Panel." Click Network and Internet Connections > Network Connection, if you are using a Windows XP Gateway computer. You should see your wireless connection. For Windows Vista and 7 Gateway computers, click "Network and Sharing Center" from the Control Panel and click "Manage Wireless Connections." You should see your wireless connection. Right-click your wireless connection and click "Disable" to turn it off. Close "Network Connections" when you are done.

I have an Acer Aspire One, I am trying to connect to the internet through my cables wireless connection. I have wireless connection but when I try to connect I receive a window that says Server not found.

That means that the gateway setting is not right. You can only communicate within local network and you can't get on Internet. Try connect through hardwire instead of wireless to see if it works. If yes, then you might need to check your wireless setting on router. Thanks

No internet connections found

First, you need to be sure that the wireless networking adapter is enabled.

  1. From the Start menu, click Control Panel.

  2. In Control Panel, click Network Connections.

  3. Check the status of Internet Connection and Local Area Connection that indicates WIRELESS (it's most likely a Broadcom product).
  4. If either item says disabled or not connected, right click and select ENABLE from the menu.
  5. Close all open dialog boxes and windows.
  6. Use the Windows XP Wireless Zero Configuration, located in the system tray at the bottom of your screen, to test the adapter.
  7. Double-click the icon with one monitor and 3 wave lines on the right side. Your network should be detected.
If that doesn't pan out, post back and I'll give you Plan B.

Connected on Wireless but unable to connect on Internet

If not done allready, setup the lan IP address and default gateway in win98 Click MyComputer-ControlPanel-Network-Double Click TCP/IP Adapter for your 3com device-insert LAN info for IP Adress-subnet mask, Gateway and your Internet service providors DNS Addresses info Tab's (3x different Tabs "IP Adress" "Gateway" "DNS Configuration") IP Adress will be at least one number higher than your gateway address and not allready being used by other PC's on your network and gateway address will same as your router interface address subnet mask will be the same for all PC's on your network. For 3com and Netgear routers LAN setup is usually Gateway = 192.168.1.1 Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.0 IP Adress = 192.168.1.10(choose alternate number than 10 if allready used by another PC on your network, try to use round numbers, must be a number higher than 1) Once all info is entered click OK (this may trigger a database info update message and task)now your LAN is setup and ready to talk to your network Restart PC and try browsing again. May possibly require reinstallation of the TCP/IP client (you double clicked this to setup your LAN in Win98) or reinstallation of the IIS(Internet Information Services)component found in, Add/Remove Programs-Add/Remove windows components and then try LAN setup again if this does not work first time round
