Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I'm not sure about setting up Linksys WRT54G2 Broadband Router in conjuction with desktop Sony Windows XP. I have a HP Pavillion dv6700 notebookWindows Vista) to configure the router so I can use it wireless within my home. I have tried by can not get it connected. The problem comes in when they say connect the blue ethernet cord to the pc(should this be going to the desktop or the notebook. There is only a data cable(green) and ethernet cable(yellow) that came with the router. There is no blue ethernet cable to connect the pc to the router as instructed. I would also like to know what would be needed to use mu notebook anywhere.

The cable should go to any of the pc's u wish to configure the router with, then all you have to do is configure the router via internet explorer, just type 192.168.1.1 in your adress bar and use admistrator for both password and username(these are the defaults) the pc that u wish to set the router up must be set to dhcp(this is done by going to network connection settings selecting properties then where it says internet protocol(tcp/ip)
select properties and select obtain an IP address automatically(this will make router give you an ip adress)

Can Linksys WRT54G2 connect between HP desktop with XP and Compac laptop with microsoft 7. Router's program is insalled on desktop.

yes.. do the following:

Go to the control panel and un-install the program that the cd installed. then:
Shutdown your PC. Unplug the power from the router and the cable modem.
Wait 30 sec. then plug in the power to the cable modem, wait 30 sec. then plug the power to the router. Wait till you have "Internet" light then restart your PC. The PC should pick up an IP address and you should be able to get on-line. This is if you have a cable service provider. If you have DSL, the router needs to be configured with PPOe.

then restart both computers.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response. Happy Holidays!

Thanks, Joe

How do I hook up my linksys to my desk top pc (XP) so I can run my lap top from upstairs

Are you trying to set up router ?
You can set up your router manually, without the CD.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

I submitted the wrong email when I first came here to send you the problem I'm having setting up my broadband router. My email address is willow70815@hotmail.com. I'm hoping that you can help me solve...

the blue and jellow ethernet cord is the same thing.
Make sure you have wireless switch on (enabled) on the laptop
If you have wireless enabled, it should say one or more wireless networks detected in windows xp. Also, if you have a certain router, you might need a code to unlock it so you can use it.

Cannot connect to the internet with my laptop

To connect to the router wirelessly using a Windows XP, right click on the wireless network connection icon on the lower right corner of the screen and choose view available wireless networks. Select your existing network and click on the connect button. If you are using Vista, go to network and sharing center of your control panel then select connect to a network. If you still having problems, please provide details of the problem like your Internet service provider and if there are already other computers online with your WRT54G2.
