I also have a Monsoon 320GB hard drive.  There is a power cord that attaches to the hard drive and the power source, make sure that the drive is turned off, plug the power cord in to the drive and the power source.  Mine came with two types of connectors to connect the hard drive to the computer.  Firewire to Firewire and a usb cord.  Use one of the cords to connect the hard drive to the computer.  Then turn your drive on.  If an icon doesn't show up on your desktop you can restart your computer, that usually works for me.  The drive functions just like your internal hard drive.  If you want to save files on the external drive just choose that option when saving a file.  Hope this helps.

Is your MacBook as fast as the Lacie Rugged Hard Disk is?

Because solid state drive wasn't available on MacBook Pro at the initial time when it launched. Hard drives on all current Apple laptops are equipped with Sudden Motion Sensor technology. In fact, the Apple laptops that came with Sudden Motion Sensor are: All Intel-based Apple portables such as the MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, PowerBook G4 computers starting with PowerBook G4 (12-inch 1.5GHz), PowerBook G4 (15-inch 1.67/1.5GHz), PowerBook G4 (17-inch 1.67GHz), and iBook G4 computers starting with iBook G4 (Mid 2005) have Sudden Motion Sensor technology. You MacBook may not have come with that technology that could be the reason you are unable to connect it.

Connect the 320GB HDD before switching ON the laptop and try to repair using scandisk option to repair the drive. Also use chkdsk /f option in command line mode.

Your Hitachi is a SATA hard drive, EZQuest manufactures both a SATA and an EIDE model. Is your model the SATA one, or does it have a large connector with about forty holes on two rows (EIDE)?

If both are SATA, you should be able to see a SATA slot on the hard drive, such as this

http://bixnet.net/images/HDD25SATA-Connector.jpg

and a largish black with two "L" slots in it (possibly, the connector is divided in two "L" connectors) such as this

Hope this helps, have a nice day

Plugged neso 320gb into macbook but its not

Hi,

Check the file system on the hard drive. It might be in an NTFS. Mac recognize NTFS as read only drive.

If you plan using it with PC and Mac you should format it using your mac thru disc utility and choose MS DOS.

You can try to take it out from the enclosure and plug the hard drive directly to your motherboard for you to retrieve the date. Or just buy a different drive enclosure.
