Plug the flash drive into the Xbox 360 USB port in the front of the machine. Hold the middle button on the Xbox 360 controller to boot the console.

  • 2

Scroll to the "My Xbox" screen with the d-pad. Move right to the media option you want to access. For example, the "Video," "music" or "Picture" options are available.

  • 3

Select the type of media by pressing the "A" button. The next menu is the same for all three options. Highlight "Portable Device" and then press the "A" button again.

  • 4

Choose the content from the next menu. On the right side, pick the file or folder of the media you want to display with the d-pad. Press "A" again to select the folder or to play the media file.

I need to find out how to update this system its a brand new system and i want to watch movies off of the flash drive can you help me

Plug your xbox 360 in to a router with internet access or alternatively use a wireless network if you are able using the instructions provided on the xbox 360.
It should update automatically to the latest version of software.
Currently the xbox 360 supports file formats of AVI, WMV, MPEG - 4 Part 2, H.264 and QuickTime movie formats. The file extensions included are as follows: .avi, .divx, .wmv, .mp4, .m4v, .mp4v, and .mov.
Make sure that the movie you want to play is on of these formats.
To check the format that the movie is in, just view its properties window.
There are many video converters out there that will allow you to change the format of a movie if it is no compatible. Simply go to download.com and search for "video converter" or "movie converter".
    Hope this helps!

I have a flash drive with movies and when i tried to play the movies it is asking for me to sign on to xbox live and upgrade right now i do not have xbox live and want to upgrade to be able to play my...

Yes, you have to log onto XBL to download the codecs to play the movies. You can get a month free though. Go through the sign up process up until it asks for a pin. Then just hit the cancel button and it will pop you up a free 1 month membership option. It'll work long enough to download the updates you need.

you should be able to fix movie problem by making a new profile on the xbox and downloading everthing again, you'll need the media update to play the movies so just start a movie on the new profile and it will auto update.this is a licence problem and thats how i fix it. but this is the proper way click link http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/licensemigration/faq.htm

Installed new Xbox DVD ROM, but cannot read games

The DVD drives must match the motherboard that it came with. Unless you go through a very complicated re-flashing process. If the motherboard and DVD drive do not match, it will not play 360 games

    Xbox 360

Some of the Xbox 360s have been known to have issues with their DVD-ROM Drives, On Older Xbox 360s The actual Drive has been known to cause slight scratching and scuffing to your Games and Movies.

If your Xbox 360 is having problems reading games, their is potentially a problem with the DVD Drives Laser, i had this issue last year with mine, Out of the blue the DVD Drive stopped working and wouldnt read Certain discs. The i would suggest Calling Up the Xbox Customer support Center for your Country (numbers Available on www.xbox.com/support) and explain your problem to the person on the end of the line.

The only solution is usually to return your Xbox to microsoft Free of charge, which will be either repaired/replaced and sent back to you.

Also, once the solution is solved, it is important to NOT leave Games/DVD's In the Xbox's drive when not in use, Especially when moving the Xbox around as this can knock the laser and cause a fault ! their is only ever a DVD in my xbox drive when it is in use, i take mine out all the time to help prevent these sorts of problems.

    Hope This helps !?
