Unplug the printer...lift up the cartrige lid...slide the cartridges to the center... now with a small flashlight look to the upper rear of the nylon belt ... notice,,the clear strip that runs along the back is ..not in the ink cartridge carrier groove..put it inside the u shaped gap on the back side of the carrier it is u shaped .the cartridge has to run through that strip.

A gear in the carrier is stripped or has fallen out of place.I've had this happen on several ink printers where the in-users jammed the printer and then forced/pulled the print head. You can often take these apart and get them serviceable in the short term. But once they break they don't last. I don't know what model printer you have specifically and I've never bought the parts for replacment, but in most cases it isn't worth the effort.
