the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Where is the 'Wireless Switch' on the IBM T42

The T42 has a bulit-in wireless network adapter and a LAN network card. T42s most likely have an Intel wireless card or less likely a Cisco wireless card.
Your wireless network adapter may have been disabled in the BIOS
and/or
The drivers for the wireless network controller has not been installed.

To check the network adapter go to the Control Panel, Click on System, click on Hardware Tab then Device Manager. Then scroll down and click on Network adapters. If you don't see your network controller or you see a yellow ? against Other devices for the Network controller. Then either it has been disabled and/or the driver was not installed.

To get the driver for the network controller you need to dowload it from the IBM/Lenovo WEB site their support/download page from a computer that has Internet access. Make sure you select your laptop model and the driver for your Windows version.
Install the driver and you then need to configure the wireless adapter to suit your wireless router settings before you can access the Internet.

This will help. Thanks please keep updated. please do rate the solution positively .Thank you for using Fixya

Manish

Am I paying for this already? I need to know how to turn on my wireless on my IBM T42 so I can access the internet and connect to my home network...please advise...

Go to the IBM/Lenovo WEB site - support/download page and download the latest Windows XP or Vista device drivers for your model computer, Use this link :-
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?template=%2Fproductselection%2Flandingpages%2FbrowseByProductLandingPage.vm&sitestyle=lenovo&brandind=10&validate=true
You can download the various drivers and then you click on and run the various driver files, they will then unzip and expand into a folder on C:\drivers Then install the various drivers from this folder.
Then you need to connect to a wireless router which is connected to your Internet Service Provider. The wireless card in the Thinkpad needs to be configured with the wireless router's settings (ie SSID, WAP or WEP encryption etc) for the wireless card to communicate with the wireless router.

Cannot connect wireless

My best suggestion is not to use the Intel wireless manager. Please go into the wireless manager and take off the "check mark" where it says the Intel Manager manages the wireless card.  This will disable the Intel wireless manager from managing your wireless card and give control back to Windows.
-Right-click "Recycle Bin" and choose "Explore"
-Right-click "My Network Places" and choose "Properties"
-Right-click on wireless network (should only be 1, maybe 2) and choose "View available wireless networks"
-Click on the wireless name from the list that belongs to your office Access point.
-If it needs a key, enter the key when prompted (it will ask you to enter it twice, one for each line).
-Once you complete this step, you should have wireless access once again.
-Intel will keep prompting you if you'd like for it to manager your wireless, I suggest you ignore this message from this point forward and only use the Windows wireless manager (built-into all Windows OS). :)

What is the OS of your PC? Try to add the wireless connection manually on your PC and enter the wireless security.

Intel Pro Wireless 2200BG problem or Linksys BEFW11S4 problem?

I had the same problem. If you are using the latest driver for your intel 2200BG (9.0.4.7). Try to roll back to a previous version. It solved my problems with being unable to connect to a Linksys BEFW11 router running WEP64.

I am now running driver version 9.0.1.9
