Question about Gateway 450ROG Notebook
Our laptop screen on our Gateway laptop just went very dark. We can still see the icons and everything but we are unable to brighten the screen to view it comfortably. We hooked up another monitor to it and it works fine. Any suggestions as to what this could be? We are hoping we can fix it ourselves. Thanks
The screen is not a sealed unit... and the backlight and the lcd bulb can both be changed out...
I do it on a daily basis....
It is way cheaper to change out the lcd bulb than it is to replace the lcd display panel... Way CHEAPER
the results are the same

This is going to be either the screen back light or the screen inverter. If it's the back light, then the screen will need to be replaced, the screen is considered a sealed unit and the back light cannot be changed out. I would get the parts off Ebay. You will be able to get them at a better price from Ebay than a computer shop. Here's links to Ebay listings for the inverter and screen for your machine (assuming it's listed properly, 450ROG) The third link down is for basic instructions on screen replacement for Toshiba.
