Mcd1311st 1100 smoking and arching

I have the MCD1311ST and it arcs behind the waveguide cover if the item in the oven is small. Placing a cup of water in the oven with the item usually stops the arcing, but my confidence in the unit safety is LOW. I am cleaning the cover and waveguide area as recommended. This unit is 4 years old and other than this recent arcing problem, I have been very happy with it.

Follow-up - I examined the original waveguide cover and found a possible spot of something (maybe grease) on the inside where the arcing was occurring. The cover was slightly damaged at that location. After several calls, I finally got a number for the manufacturer, Daewoo, (877-393-7823) in NJ and they were very helpful. I purchased a new waveguide cover for $2.52 (unfortunately the shipping was $8.00), but still a lot less than buying a new oven! The arcing problem appears to be solved, but I still watch the unit carefully.

WOW - I am so glad I found this website! Our microwave is having the same problem, and I can see that the waveguide cover is damaged, and there is a dusting of metal particles inside. I have now ordered a new waveguide cover, and will clean the microwave thoroughly, and hopefully that will solve the problem! I'll keep you posted.

Quite often this is due to grease or food particles stuck to the inside of the oven or stuck on or behind the waveguide cover.

The waveguide cover is usually about the size of a playing card and often held in place by a plastic rivet.

(In some models it is a larger stirrer cover type made of thicker plastic in the ceiling of the oven)

It can be fragile, and the metal edges of the oven behind it can be sharp, so be careful!

The cover and the metal behind it should be cleaned with a mild, non-ammonia cleaner.

If the cavity metal of the oven is chipped or charred, it will have to be sanded smooth and clean and dried thoroughly.

Then you can apply some high-temperature appliance paint, available from places like Wal-Mart, Lowe's or Builder's Square.

If your waveguide cover is burned, it will need to be replaced. It provides important protection for the magnetron.

You can order Magic Chef / Ewave parts here.

Smoking and electrical smell

OOPS!
Sounds bad!
Remove the power plug & remove the lid!
Remember microwaves are deadly! Never touch! use your eyes only!
Put a 1/2 cup of water in & start. Look if you can see where the smoke comes from. If there is some arching somehhere, you may unplug it & leave it for 1/2 an hour to get rid of lethal high voltages. There may be carbon black at the arching site. You may clean it and if you see any paint damage, cover it with a piece of duck tape. Then try again.
If the smoke comes from the transformer, a square heavy iron box, dump the microvawe.
They are cheaper than the combined cost of the transformer & the labour!

I need to find a part inside the oven cavity that I believe defuses the microwaves, its approx 6 X 3.5 with 4 tabs in a tan color. Model # MCD1311ST

Here is a web site that you can go to and look at the complete parts list it's free they have a 800 number as well If your in the U.S. or Canada.
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/modelsearch.aspx?model=MCD1311ST
let me know if this helps this has a split screen and a side screen on the left side it gives the different parts groups and then a picture of the parts and description on the bottom screen and a look at how it's put together on the top screen with the parts numbered.

I just installed an over the range Magic Chef microwave and all controls seem to work properly however, it will not cook or heat anything. Am I correct in assuming the magnatron is faulty.

Sometimes there is a separate fuse for the magnatron circuit. Sometimes the fuse is the culprut, and sometimes it is the control board. Usually when magnatrons fail, they smoke or go bang or both.
I would look for a blown fuse first, and then look for a factory authorised service center.

Best of luck.

I need to replace a magnetron tube in my Magic Chef MCD1311ST 1100 Watts Microwave Oven do these tubes have diffrent power ratings do you no were I can find a cross-referance for this tube (DAEWOO RM259...

Try Ace Appliance who can cross reference most of these megatron tubes. Most of the time, its getting the access to the tube that will take up most of your time inside the microwave. Also, another good place to find these parts is Daewoo website.

Started arching

This can be caused by grease in the oven especially on the paper like filter inside most of them. If it has burnt spots it may need to be replaced.

Magic Chef MCD1311ST, no longer heats. Any suggestions?

Probably a bad magnetron tube. If you dont hear that tell tell buzz when it is running then that is a good indication of a bad mag tube.
