Curly one Power switch plays up The motherboard is a new one and inspects fine. Also replaced control panel (power switch ) and power supply. It starts after multiple presses of the switch sometimes up to thirty presses. I observe the power supply and processor cooling fan when trying to switch ON and they just spin for a second or 2 then stops, motherboard may be intermittently grounding to the case. How do i remedy this? Thanks in advance. power to the board but will not switch on

Hi
there is way to find out
First ,disconnect all power cable and data cable from hdd, fdd, and remove all pci devices.
Now you have to check your pc mother board not touch to your pc case.
Second, check heat sink on cpu is mount properly check ram also.
now check on button if it is ok push it to on.
if now occouring same problem.
change cpu and check
if the problem is not solved you mother board is faulty.

reconnect hdd, fdd, pci devices one by one before on your pc

you must shutdown your pc before connect peripharel devices.

Scaleo T stops dead and shorts out house supply when plugged in.

check the board visually if you have some bulged capacitors near cpu or north bridge but in most cases also near sata controller.
if you have then replace the capacitors usually tyhey are designed for 6,3V 1000uF or same spec for 16V
all caps are 105C.
also you need to replace them in the power supply.
now days the factory giving low strenght psu to high spec computer.
get some corsair power supply between 800-1000W
i know that is to much but then you can do upgrade later on such as graphic or cpu or more ram.
finally test the voltages on mos fet transistors.
usually people asking why this happen
it happens because the main is not filtered and usually no many home user have upc backup with power filter and the seccond thing is
the fact when the board request more power from the psu then the psu drain more down and when the oscillator on the primary circuit start to catch up then the capacitors blow up by the time.
sometime the 5V goes up to 12-or 16
in this case most component suffer like sata controller or north bridge.

No power from transformer

If the switch mode power supply does not power up then it maybe be faulty.
First check the power button wires from the front panel to the motherboard is seated correctly on the motherboard.
If it still does not boot up then replace the switch mode power supply, make sure the new switch mode power supply has the same or higher wattage rating.

My HP Media Center PC m1180n had been running fine. I just went to shut it down and after it powered off, I saw a spark come from inside the tower. No there is no power to the PC. Any help would be...

I've had this happen and was able to resolve by removing the power cord for about a minute.
If still nothing, remove the side panel and inspect the motherboard for melting or charring. If you see some you will need to replace the motherboard, if none is present, start by replacing the power supply. Still nothing then it's motherboard replacement
There is a possibility the spark fried more than just the motherboard.

Comment back if you need clarification or more help.

My sisters e-machine will not switch on there is no sound from the power suply fan and no light one the on switch

The power-supply or the motherboard has failed.

The power-supply is a "user-replacable" part,
but replacing the motherboard takes a lot more skill and care.

Take the computer to a qualified technician, and ask them to temporarily try a different power-supply. If it works, buy the power-supply, and pay the technician to remove the "dead" unit, and properly install the "new" unit.

I have an ASRock AM2NF6G-VSTA motherboard that will not power up. I upgraded the system and powered it up and it ran fine, except I had not received the new upgrade power supply. I received and installed...

check the power supplies you have if it is working well. then reset cmos.
then if it would not power on, your motherboard maybe a deadset (meaning dead/unusable).

I think that you have a faulty power switch there. I know it is new but there could still be a fault. Suggest try a new power switch as for the earthing check that the motherboard screws are all in place and secured to the case.

Thanks J

Emachine T2484 will not power up

Try to start it without any memory in it (RAM), if it beeps then you have bad RAM. If you have more than 1 piece of RAM then try one at a time and see if it will boot. If it doesn't beep and still doesn't turn on your CPU is probably the culprit since you have a new motherboard and power supply. I would also try unplugging everything that is unnecessary like the CD-ROM, Hard drive, sound card, etc..
