Peninsula otr microwave installation

Hello I see you have answered some questions concerning this topic. I have a peninsula cabinet above my range with no wall (containing studs) behind the range. I am asking to see if it would be alright to mount the microwave here even though it says not too in the instructions. I have reinforced the bracket location with 1x4 boards anchoring them to the other cabinets with liquid nails and 7/8" drywall screws I would also mount the 3 top screws into the 1" fiber board cabinet above. I've checked the mounting of the cabinet up in the attic and the whole cabinet is supported by 2 2x4 beams connected to the roofing structure of the house. Do you think this would be a safe configuration and would it pass inspections when I sell the house eventually? The unit weighs 62 lbs.

Thanks,

Ethan

I cannot comment on this. On something that is non-standard and specifically warned against in the manual, I would only comment if I were there to inspect it.

I would get a pro's on-site opionion.

I removed the bolts for my Danby OTR microwave. Dmw162w-otr. The microwave does not move. Are there any other bolts or is there anything I am missing before I can remove the microwave?

In a normal installation, there is a plate that mounts to the wall and bolts come down through the cabinet. Once the bolts are removed from the cabinet above mic, the mic should hindge forward. It takes two people to handle. How ever, in some cases an installation guy will add screws into the side of the unit. So look for some screws to the right and left of mic. Good luck!

remove-ge-spacemaker-800x800.jpgRemove a GE Spacemaker
The GE Spacemaker series of microwave ovens are designed to be installed above an oven range, freeing up counter space in your kitchen. Some of these Spacemaker models are connected to an outside venting system to carry kitchen vapor and odors outside. Other Spacemaker models utilize a ductless system to do this. Removing a GE Spacemaker microwave oven isn't a difficult task, but, because of the size of some of the oven models, it is a two-man operation. Have a question? Things You'll Need

  • Assistant
  • Sharp knife
  • Phillips screwdriver
Instructions
    • 1 Open the cabinet above where the Spacemaker microwave oven is installed. If you see a vent in the cabinet leading to the Spacemaker oven below, your Spacemaker is vented. This vent needs to be disconnected before continuing with removal. Disconnect the vent either by loosening the duct clamps or by cutting the duct tape away with a sharp knife. Pull the vent out of the top of the oven.
    • 2 Have an assistant support the oven from below. Loosen the mounting screws connected to the Spacemaker through the cabinet bottom. Loosen the screws by turning counterclockwise with the Phillips screwdriver.
    • 3 Unplug the Spacemaker from the socket in the cabinet.
    • 4 Continue loosening the screws while your assistant holds the oven in place. Once the screws are removed, have your assistant slowly lower the Spacemaker down by lowering the front face at a 45-degree angle.
    • 5 Feed the power cable for the Spacemaker through the hole in the bottom in the supporting cabinet.
    • 6 Help your assistant slowly pull the Spacemaker forward and out of the mounting brackets on the rear wall. Once the Spacemaker is cleared of the mounting cabinet and rear wall, set it down.
    • 7 Remove the mounting bracket from the rear wall by loosening the screws.

Hi I'm thinking of getting an OTR mictowave and was wondering if I have to install an outlet in the cabinets or can I just place it where the existing wires for the hood fan are. This location would be...

The outlet needs to be in the cabinet above. The microwave needs a dedicated circuit. Turn the power off to the hood and see if any lights or outlets go off on the same curcuit. If only the hood is on that line your good to go with that wire if it meets requirments. Our code asks for 15 amp breaker and 12/2 grounded wire. If it meets your local requirments, just take it up inside the wall to your new outlet location(usually there is enough wire to reach) and install a box, outlet and cover.

How to Remove an OTR Microwave from the wall

first you need to take the grill off the front of the micro there should be two screws on the very top of the unit that allow you to take the grill cover off there also should be two screws in the cabinet above the micro that hold the unit in place some models have a silver hook or latch on the left side that you pull forward to release the unit from the back plate do not pull on this till you have taken out the two set screw on top of the cabinet after doing this the micro should come down

Microwave installation under cabinet, no rear wall

Your model weighs 41 pounds empty.

That - plus maybe adding another 8-10 pounds for safety - us what your installation needs to be able to handle.

I would think the average cabinet could handle that, but it may be better to add a small steel plate or large washer surrounding the mounting screws to help disperse the weight load.

The owner's manual describes the installation kit you can use to mount it in a cabinet or in the wall, etc. That may be helpful.

If you don't still have your manual you can download it here.

Otr microwave install

We have a partial service manual for that model on our site at http://www.microwavedisplay.com/MV1615x_Service_Manual.pdf

It shows an exploded view of the installation on page 8-7 but for some reason the parts list (with part numbers) is missing.

But this page *should" answer your question.

If yours is not a Goldstar MV-1615, please reply back with your brand and model.
