Sony Vaio W510G keyboard problem

This all in one vaio computer has served me well for about 4 years. The problem I am encountering is that the keyboard will not work. The system turns on and I go to put in my password and the keyboard seems to be locked. Can you help me? The last time the computer worked well, a bell started ringing and wouldn't stop until I turned the computer off.

Thank you

The all in one Vaio has a keyboard attached to it. Unless I am able to plug in a keyboard thru a bus. The keyboard does not light up when I turn the power on.

    Thanks,Janet

Hello janet,
Well im afraid that the experts who ask you do a keyboard are not familiar with your Sony Vaio W510G Model...Yeah As every one say the keyboard might have worn out due to the usage of 4 years..But Replacement is not necessary..IF your Familiar with Hardware then try to open the panel and check for connection failure inside or else better call up a Technician for a Service(which is a better option)..Also the Bell ringing could be Due to a "Faulty Processor Fan "..So Better call a technician for service..Thank you..

Please post back for how things turned on or for further assistance..

Regards!!!...

When you switch the computer on keep tapping the F8 key and a black screen with white writing should open.
From this screen you either select to work in Safe Mode and see if your keyboard will work in Safe Mode allowing you to do a system restore back to before this started happening or, you can select Start with last known good configuration, instead of Safe Mode.

This can be really a bad keyboard already, try to unplg/replug your keyboard and restart again your computer, By the way does your keyboard light up when your computer is power on? If not definitely this can be a bad keyboard already better try another one to check if this is only a keyboard problem..

Hope that helps..........

This sounds like you need a new keyboard. The keyboard is the most used pard of any computer, and they eventually wear out.

Try an external keyboard, this will tell you whether it's the keyboard or another area.

Sony vaio pcv-w510g. CMOS checksum error - defaults loaded hardware monitor found an error. Enter power setup menu for details. Also, power button must be depressed...

It sounds like the CMOS battery may be dead. It's a small watch battery inside the computer that maintains your time and date settings even when the computer is turned off and not connected to power. They die after 3-5 years and need to be replaced. They are usually a standard 2032 watch battery that you can get at Radio Shack for $5. The bad news is that the computer will need to be opened up to change it. If you are not comfortable doing that, I'd recommend finding a local technician or shop to do it for you. They can be found pretty easily using google maps or craigslist

Will Sony sell you another PSU?

It's a laptop I'll bet they require you to get authorization and return for service. Do so.
