Burned smell indicates some board level component has shorted and /or burned. Also, there could be high voltage arcing which has burned through the wire insulation. Safety circuit has shut down the unit to prevent further damage or fire hazard

Mitsubishi WD-52525 52" Rear Projection HDTV popped, bad picture and vibrates

The pop was a high voltage arc of electricity that blew some vital components on the main circuit board. The unit is of no use now. Repairs are far more than replacing the TV.

PICTURE WENT OFF WITHA LOUD POP -SIMILAR TO A FUSE BLOWING - EMINATING FROM THE TV. SWITCHED OFF ATMAINS AND BACK ON AGAIN _ GOT SOUND BUT NO PICTURE

One of your IC circuits has roasted. You can probably smell the burn if you can get in close enough. Unless you're into electronics, you won't be able to fix this yourself. It's a 3-5 hundred dollar fix depending on your location, labour costs etc.
