The 2002 service manual says replace stretched bolts. stage I: 30 ft-lb (40Nm) stage II: additional 1/4 turn, stage III: another 1/4 turn. Start in center, work your way out diagonally back and forth (crossways) ending on the ends of the block. Do this sequence on each stage.

According to Haynes Manual, 2005 Nissan Altima, using BRAND NEW cylinder head bolts:

1 - Tighten in sequence (as pictured) to 37 ft-lbs.
2 - Tighten an additional 60 degrees.
3 - Loosen all bolts completely.
4 - Tighten in sequence 26 - 32 ft-lbs.
5 - Tighten in sequence an additonal 75 degrees.
6 - Tighten in sequence an additional 75 degrees.

VOLKSWAGONS YOU NEED CYLINDER HEAD REMOVE SEQUENCE AND CYLINDER HEAD TORQUE SEQUENCE.YOU NEED A REPAIR MANUAL FOR TORQUE SEQUENCE OR YOU WILL HAVE HEAD GASKET LEAKS. TORQUE HEAD BOLTS TO * STEP 1 * TORQUE BOLTS 30 FT LBS * STEP TWO * TIGHTEN BOLTS 44 FT LBS STEP 3 TIGHTEN BOLTS PLUS 90 DEGREES.* STEP FOUR* TIGHTEN BOLTS PLUS 90 DEGREES AGAIN.

Step 1 torque to 59 ft pounds
2. Loosen one full turn
3. 37 ft pounds
4. 68 ft pounds

Use torque sequence below

First pass, torque them to 30 Ft Lbs working from the center outward. Then go back again and torque them to 75 Ft Lbs.
