Question about HP Pavilion dv6000z Notebook

1 Answer

Gateway desktop I have a gateway desktop with vista and a hp laptop with xp. I HATE vista and I was wondering if I can put xp from my laptop onto my desktop and get rid of vista. None of my software on xp will work with vista and I don't want to go through the expense of repurchasing all of my software. Any help would be good. Thank you Katbeck

Only if it's not an HP labele operating system disc. Otherwise you will need an XP operating system disc, the HP recovery disc with XP will not work with your Gateway or any other manufacturer machine other than HP. The operating system on any manufacturer recovery disc is assigned to that specific manufacturer, so if you try to install from the HP disc it might install, but it will only give you thirty days, then shut down, or it won't install at all. It will be cheaper to purchase an XP operating system disc than all the software over again just for Viiiiiista!!! (I enjoy making fun of Vista) If you have anymore questions or need help feel free to ask.

Keep in mind that you will need to download drivers for certain devices in your Gateway. You can find these at Gateway's support site. If you have any trouble find any drivers let me know and I'll see if I can track them down.

I have HP Officejet 6500 connected via USB to office desktop. I also need print from vista laptops on the same wireless network as the desktop. How do you do it ?

Hi, I just completed this same query this week.

to set up my remote network i followed promts from windows and then had to run my windows xp startup disc on my vista laptop.

After that was complete i had to install the hp printer setup cd onto my vista laptop and connect the hp printer to my router using the ethernet cable. I followed the prompts on the vista as the cd continued to install. then at the end of it all it showed i had correctly installed the printer via wireless and asked me to do a practice print which i did and all seems fine.

I can now print from my vista laptop and my windows xp desktop. I hope this helps

Downgrade to XP

Looks like they do not have very many drivers listed for XP on their site, but all of them (obviously) for Vista. I would recommend you not downgrade to XP with that particular laptop. Sorry!

Help me to find a laptop with graphics card at a range of 30000

Choosing the laptop, the first import thing is the purpose for which you want to buy.

1. If its just for normal home usage with a gaming bit of gaming, then you can choose HP Pavilion series, as they come with good graphic cards. Even Dell Studio/XPS can be considered.

2. If the Purpose is limited to just surfing the net, with some MS Office application, then you can choose cheaper options like Dell Inspiron Series or HP-Compaq Pressrio series. The will come in a range from 33k to 38 k.

3. If you are a linux geek, then for sure go for HP Compaq Pressario the cheapest one (they don't come with OS) and you can choose your own OS (from Ununtu to debian or any other Linux OS). Even if you want to put your version of Windows OS, then you can do so in these laptops (I hate to use Vista as its pathetically slow, I removed Vista Premium from my laptop and now I am using XP as its really very fast. When Windows remove support for XP completely, by then Vista would statbilize, as of now, it keeps crashing every now and then).

Hope this helps.

Printer's printing black instead of colored.

the printer is fine its the computer that you are printing from that is giving the wronge information. try reinstalling it onto that computer. and check that the background on the word documents are not black on print prevew first. or you have not chosen on the program you are printing from there is not a background colour that needs sending to the back.

it a bios problem there are many people trying the same thing, you may need to reinstall Vista first again if you cannot get the drive to format, see below http://apcmag.com/5485/dualbooting_vista_and_xp http://www.syschat.com/dual-boot-vista-xp-vista-already-1946.html
