Question about Dell UltraSharp 1800FP 18.1" LCD Flat Panel Monitor
Every day when i turn on my computer and monitor, the monitor stays black, but the green light turns on. I have to unplug the power cable and plug it back in a few times before it starts to work. When its doing this, the power button in the front doesn't work either, any ideas what the problem might be?
I had the same problem i found out it was the inverter i replaced it and it was like new. i do have 2 inverters if you are intrested

It could be a setting problem, power saver setting, or a mode that the monitor does not really support - things like refresh rate - or actual hardware.
Easiest way is to borrow another like monitor, and say another video cord and see if the problem remains, or if a newer monitor says 'out of range' or similar.
Then, if you have a fancy video card, remove it and use something primitive. Not reading instructions is a big cause.
If its not a setting issue, and as the inverter board is ok; if the above description is correct, reseat the inner board connecting cables.(wood fires and seaside locations) If not that, a lucky guess might be the electros on the logic board.

Inside there is a IC chip on the power pack that goes bad, replacement is called for also look for bad capacitors when you are inside looking around, those need to be replaced as well
hope this clears things up. dells third party who built these units did a rotten job on this model. that chip always fails.

Most likely, this is failing "inverter."
The backlight of the monitor (that makes the image visible) is controller by a special chunk of electronics called an inverter. They tend to fail over time. The symptom is that the backlight either never comes on, flickers, or shuts off after a short period of time.
It is a moderately advanced repair job to change out the inverter, but you can usually get the part on eBay. Search for the exact monitor model number and "inverter".
The 2001FP has six lamps and the inverter is fairly expensive. You might be better off putting that money towards a newer monitor.
