I've had my wgt624 router for three years and despite restarting it a few times, it still will not update. I gave up and decided to just let it go. Then today I decided to see if I could update it but now whenever I try to do so, it ends up saying that it is not connected to the internet. I'm losing my patience here so please, help me out if you can.

Try resetting your router.

go to NETGEAR Router

Probably, this is because of Firmware Issue, There are firmware updates for most of netGear routers and they have to be done.

If you do these updates, you will have to write down all details of you networ/router manually and once the update is complete, you will be manually setting up the router,

IF you have the netgear support no. and your router is still in warranty, contact netgear and ask them help you do these updates..

You can perform a firmware update on your router. Please go to netgear website http://netgear.com and make sure to select the exact model number and version of your product. Download the latest firmware for your product and proceed with the firmware update.

Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link.
http://192.168.0.1
or
http://192.168.1.1
If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it.
Then it ask for user name and password.
Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank.
Then you can see configuration page of router.

You can download the device drivers from NetGears own website @ http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/WGT624.asp you will need to select the EXACT model( version you have - this can be found on the stamp underneath the router that has all those barcodes on) and download the latest drivers for yours. by doing this it will trigger 1 of 2 responses:

1. You have the latest version, no update is needed

2. You must setup your device before updating drivers. to do this please select OK

1 - Will trigger an auto setup of the device.
2 - Will take you through the setup wizard itself

which depends on how your router was shipped. If you have brought the router 2nd hand then you can obtain a new setup disc free of charge via the same site if neither of the above work.

For future ref: PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR 'FULL' ROUTER INFO-Different models of the same router can work quite differently and you may not get a best fix without it

I am in the UK and have found through experience the Netgear's seem to work perfect on a BT line (equivalent of AT & T)
but not on the cable.

I would suggest purchasing a Linksys by Cisco WRT54GL Wireless-G Broadband Router as these seem to install in minutes,
saves me hours of wasted time when setting up wireless networks.

check on netgear's website but if i remember correctly your router, wgt624v2, isn't compatible with vista. i had to buy a new updated router, wtg624v3, last year for that reason.

explain more about problem ! how i can understand you have some web page, that you need to refresh time to time ? and with WGT624 you did this ok, and with WNR834M you cannot do this ? if i understant you right so problem is not in router, just change the settings in IE control panel > internet options > browser history > settings > chek for newer version of stored page pages: every time i visit the webpage
