I used a snake like they sell for unclogging pipes. I can use the snake on one end to break it up. I attach the other end to my industrial wet.dry vac and **** it clean. Sometimes I cannot imagine how it fills half a five gallon bucket of dog hair and stuff.

I think the power head is clogged with pine needles. The carpet head is not picking up. How do I open it to clean it out?

Make sure you have suction at the end of the hose. If not, the clog is most likely in the hose. Detach hose from vacuum and wand. Drop a coin into one end and allow it to fall through. If it doesn't drop out, the clog is definitely in the hose. Then visually check the wands for a clog
Disassembling the power nozzle is not necessary, or recommended. First, ensure the clog is in the power nozzle. Drop a coin in the wand end and see if it falls out. If not, the clog is elsewhere. You should be able to clear the power nozzle by disconnecting the wand. Use the handle of a table knife to try to push the clog back through the power nozzle, toward the brush. If that doesn't work, try using long nosed pliers to clear the clog.

I have the Miele cat & dog S5000 vacuum. I have had it about 1 year and lately the suction doesn't seem as strong and the full bag indicater is always full. I have followed instructions in manual but...

Greetings,

I would say that you have a slight clog in the hose or in the power nozzle somewhere. The full bag indicator is just a guage that will indicate full when it feels like it's lost suction. Example: If you were to take the hose and cover it with your hand, you'll notice that bag full indicator will show full.

To check and see where the clog in the vacuum is, remove the wands and floor attachment so you just have the hose on the vacuum cleaner. With just the hose attached, turn the vacuum cleaner on. Does it still show a full bag? If yes, then remove the hose completely from the vacuum cleaner so it's just the canister part by itself and turn on the vacuum again. If the bag full indicator is now showing an empty bag, this means that you have a clog in your hose.

If the bag full indicator displayed an empty bag when you had the hose on the vacuum, but shows a full bag when you have the wands and floor tool attached, this means that you have a clog in the vacuum either in the wands, or the floor attachment.

For removing clogs from the hose, the quickest way is to just purchase a plumbers snake at your local hardware store, and run the snake through the hose until you find the clog. You may also take a high pressure hose and spray it down the hose until the clog is cleared, but if you use a water hose, MAKE SURE the hose is 100% dry before you use it again.

Also that bag full indicator can be adjusted if you are getting a lot of suction power and it still shows full.

I hope that these suggestions helped you diagnosis your Miele canister to figure out why the indicator showed full. If this helped you please rate my repair helpful.

Feel free to contact me if you need further assitance, I'm always happy to help.

We have a Kenmore canister vacuum cleaner. the carpet cleaning attachment, I think is called the power mate has a beater that is intermittently working now

Your hose could be bad. The wires frequently go bad up by the handle switch. also could possibly be the wand, those go bad. You can check that by attaching your powermate directly to the nozzle without the wand and see if the same problem is there. Do you have the mini powermate also? the one that is usually mounted on the wand. If so plug that in directly to the hose and see if you have the same problem. If that tool works fine then the problem is in the powerhead.

Will not start

try opening it up again and reclosing. Might be as simple as the cleaner is not lined up right. Check for bag misalignment. some cleaners have a lock-out mechanism that prevents the cleaner from starting if the lid and or bag are not in the proper alignment. If it is the filter compartment, same thing. Then, check a different outlet, check if your bag is full. if you were cleaning with the machine already prior to the checking of the back, maybe there is a clog or full bag as this would cause the vac to overheat and thus, the thermostat would not allow the vacuum to operate until it cools. If this is the case, change your bag, filter, and drop a penny through the hose(unattached from the vacuum and power nozzle) to check for blockage. Chances are, this is where your problem lies.

Vacuum clogged

If you are talking about the electric hose, try using your none electric hose with the crevice tool attachment to extract the particles from the other one. When using any of the hose please leave it running a few minutes to make sure everything in the hose moves through and does not stop midway through.

Clogged vacuum hose, new carpet, have been through two vacuums already.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. When vacuuming it is a good idea to give your vacuum a burst of air once in a while to clear the hose and push the dust and dirt into the bag, simply just lift up on the powerhead or vacuum hose and give it a burst of air every 5 or 10 minutes. Also, we you like to know the brand name and model # of the vacuum. Some of the ways are to use a round metal ball or marble to see where the clog is in the hose and then you can use such things as the end of a broom handle, or you can use a wire coat hanger and bend the end to make a little hook and then try to grab the clog and say fish it out – or if you have another canister or shop vac you can tune on both canisters and try to pull the clog apart and sometimes that works as well – just be careful so that you do not puncture the electric hose because they are expensive in the area of $100.00 or more in some cases. If you need further assistance please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area.

So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Canister works, vacuum doesnt

There could be a break in the electric from the machine to the hose - or from the hose to the wand - or from the wand to the Power Nozzle - or it could be the motor is bad.

Wiggle the cord at the Hose with it running- then go to the Wand - then to the Power Nozzle. You may find a break in the wires anywhere along the line.

unplug the Vacuum:

If you have a meter check to see if the reset is working - and last check to see if the motor will work removed from the Nozzle.
