What you need is a wireless printer access points to connect your printer to your network. This way all the computers will be able to send print jobs to the printer. Send me an E=mail and I will tell you where to get one cheap and how to hook it up. I will call you.

Well if the wireless will not be that far from where the router will be installed you can get a regular wireless g broadband router. WRT54G, or WRT54G2.

I have a desktop and laptop mac and I cannot use my router one the laptop. I can access internet by connecting the router to my comcast cable network and to the desktop but not the laptop

What is the Operating system on the laptop ?
If it is XP then in the bottom right hand corner you will find Wireless network connection ( looks like 1 computer monitor). Use that icon to connect to the wireless network.
If it is windows Vista, then in the bottom right hand corner you will find 2 computer monitor icon. Use that icon to connect to the wireless network.
If it is Windows 98/ME/2000 then use the adapter utility to connect to the wireless network.
For MAC you will see the AIRPORT icon at the top.

Check the wireless settings of the router first . Make sure that yopu have all the wireless settings of the router. If you are not sure about the settings, then open the router set up and check the settings.

Is this router mac compatible and if so please where would I find the drivers

Router need not be any platform specific. All you need to do is plug in your Ethernet cable from your desktop / laptop to the router and get started .
Have a look at this link..http://www.dlink.com/support/faq/ . Should help connect to the router.

Just bought a HP Laptop along with a Linksys WRT160N router. Currently have a Dell desktop w/service by local cable company. CANNOT get this router set up to get internet on the laptop. Help?

Hi! I will be more than glad to assist u in this concern..That is right! if u bypass the router it will work, the reason why the modem wont talk to the router bcoz the router is not properly setup.. if you are using a cable modem from ur cable company provider- u need to do a mac clone on the router ,u have to clone the mac address of ur dell desktop computer which works with the local cable company... normaly the mac of ur computer is the one register to your cable company and on the setup page of the router just select on the internet setup, dhcp after clonning the mac address of your computer. u need to connect ur computer directly to the router and then after doing the process connect the router to the modem.

Problems adding new MAC address

Ok... this is an easy fix..first, turn off all the equipment including any laptops with wi-fi. then TURN ON YOUR MAIN ROUTER FIRST. Secondly turn on the cable modem..be sure its connected to the already turned on router. This will establish the router as your address the cable modem will set up as the main mac address. Then go ahead and boot up any other routers, and computers and wifi... That should keep everything connected because the router will delegate all the addresses to everything and the modem should remain "happy" with the router addres..

Let me know if this helps... and if you need anymore help.

Installation problem

Hi,

Initially, I would suggest that you connect either your Dell desktop and IBM ThinkPad laptop using a wired LAN cable to any of the Ethernet Port 1~4 of the router and verify that your PC is set to Auto obtain an IP address. Thereafter pls go through the setup procedures again.

If this is how you have connected your router and PCs, pls post back that we can figurre something else.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

No internet connection

Some ISPs require you to register the MAC address of your network adapter before their DHCP server will issue you an IP address. The MAC address of the router is different than the MAC address of the NIC in your laptop. Call your ISP and they should be able to help you.

Are you operating the laptop with the wireless on and a cable too? You should probably choose one or the other and not both at the same time.

If you are only operating both computers on a wire then --

Assuming all cables are completely plugged in securely

If the problem is intermittent you may need to use your laptop in a normal fashion -- to see if any movement causes the disconnection. If there is a internottently defective cable when it is in your desktop it may fail less frequently, Meaning, it may work more consistenly because your desktop does not get moved around. (This last instance may avoid detection in this testing process)

Try swapping the laptop's cable with your desktop computer's cable at the computer end and see of the problem moves.

If it does not move you may have a problem with the ethernet port on the laptop -- end of test.

If the problem does not appear -- you may not have an issue or you may have a defective cable probably attached to the desktop now as noted above failing more infrequently so you have not observed it yet.

If it moves you may have either a bad cable or a bad router port -- continue test.

To determine which swap the cable's on the router end this time between the two attached ports (use the same ports with the opposite cable in each).

If the problem moves again it is the router port -- try switching the cable of the non-working machine to a new router port.

If the problem stays put is probably a defective cable. It will probably be easiest to replace the cable.

I hope this helps.

Losing internet connection when I try to connect laptop to wireless router

Your cloning the mac address - thats the problem. It should use it's own mac address to connect to the modem. You need to power down the modem, then repower after a minute or so to let it connect to the new mac address. The problem you are seeing is due to network collisions betweenj the desktop and the router with the modem.
