Your phone needs to be fully disassembled and cleaned out. Once the moisture dries, it is common for cellphones to operate for short periods of time until the inevitable corrossion begins to grow and deteriorate the internal components. It can still be fixed, but is time sensitive.

Also make sure you do not put the battery in or plug it into the charger. The phone is already shorting out and voltage can cause additional damages.

My son dropped his phone in the ocean will not come on

It most likely is dead. Whenever this happens you should immediately remove the battery. If that is not possible turn the phone off. From there, letting the phone dry by putting it in a Ziploc bag with rice for several days sometimes will fix the phone.
I once dropped mine in a pool. I popped the battery off, dried it out with the rice method and tried to get it working again. It did not work until I replaced the battery but the phone was fine after that.

My iphone will not read the sim card. The card works fine in another phone. My phone was submerged in a tub of greasy water and i am tryinng to restore it now.

Ben, Could you try dry it first? Do not turn on.
As you said that your card is not read by iphone, i can see that you already turn it on after it submerged in greasy water. I hope it doesn't short circuit yet. Use hair dryer, dry your iphone through the usb connection hole, leave for awhile, make sure it dry, then try again. Hope this will help. For future, if phone dropped in water, first thing to do is take off battery, or turn of completely then dry it before checking it still work or not. Thanks for reading.

I recently jumped into a pool with my cell phone in my pocket (SAMSUNG Reality). I realized it 10 minues or so after. Dried the phone. A day later, the phone will turn on when connected to charger...

When phone gets wet NEVER try to turn it on. Take battery out right away shake water off and put both in bowl of rice for at least 24 hrs. If your not home or don't have rice right away take battery out and get some. We have a bowl of rice on the counter all summer long for those who jump in the pool with phone in their pocket. I have washed them dropped them in the toilet my son jumped in pool with his phone, put it rice for 24 hrs and we were up and running with the exception of the one in the pool, that one cost me new battery on Ebay ($4.95) but phone worked fine, didn't even lose contacts or pictures. But the key is to NOT try to turn it on after its been wet. Water and batteries don't mix.

LG Dare dropped in Pool

Just put it in a bag of rice for couple of weeks. The rice pulls all the water or wetness out of the phone. How do I know, Well I found a brand New Lg Dare phone in a puddle, put it in rice for 2 1/2 months. I took it out of the bag, put it together, turn it on. To my amazement it worked. Ran to store, bought a charger, and it has worked every day since.

Dropped my phone in sink of water

You may have caused a short in the device. Basically once your cellphone is exposed to water, the best solution would be to IMMEDIATELY remove the battery, and place the device in a bowl of rice. The rice serves to absorb the moisture, and within a day, should restore your phone :D.

It doesn't hurt to take it apart and dry it by hand though, but by trying to use a non-dry phone you may have to get a new one.

Phone wil not turn on

The best thing to do anytime the phone gets wet, is to immediately remove the battery. I dropped one into a pool. I took the battery out and let the thing dry for about a week. It worked fine until I got rid of it about a year and a half later. The key is to removing the battery. The moisture and power together are the lethal combination.

Won't turn on

try this at your own risk: open the phone up and get a can of compressed air and clean the phone out. have a look on the battery connectior bit if the connectors are rusted, and if they are then you just need to scrape the rust off them. the battery might have also been rusted by now, so check the connectors on that aswell. hope this helps.
