Kenwood dnx 7100 e brake over ride - DVD

Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me out. I'm trying to ground the e brake wire so my passenger is able to view dvd's while the car is in motion. I'm not very tech savy and need some help locating the correct wire to ground. I understand its light green but i am still unable to find it under the dash. (if indeed it is visible under the dash) Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated!!!

That is absolutely correct...the unit should be grounded directly behind the unit.

It is a light green wire. It should have a sticker on it that reads "to emergencty Brake"
I just grounded mine to the same black wire ground of the main radio. It works fine.

Using without parking break

Hi James,

Page 27 of the installation manual (http://www.wwstereo.com/_files/155788/documents/Kenwood--Manual.pdf) shows a connection to the parking brake light circuit. It is the Light Green wire labeled "PRK SW" shown below.

507e8abd-cbd0-4811-9c76-ad8a0f498b77.jpg

If it is connected the way it is drawn, the PRK SW wire is connected between the lamp and the switch that opens and closes depending on the position of the parking brake (set or not). 12 volts is always present from the battery to the top of the lamp. It passes thru the filament to the wire that goes the top of the parking brake switch. So, when the brake is OFF or disengaged, the lamp is off and 12 volts is present on the PRK SW wire to your Kenwood GPS. When you set the parking brake, the ground (symbol is the funny slanted lines under a horizontal line) just under the brake switch passes through the switch and changes voltage at the PRK SW to "ground" or 0 volts. When this happens, the ground on one side of the lamp with 12 volts on the other side of the lamp - make is turn on.

So, what does this mean? Simply tie the PRK SW wire to any grounded metal and the Kenwood will think the parking brake is always set - for as long as it is tied to ground. You can check it with a simple voltmeter to be sure. Set the meter to 12 volts or more, touch black lead to ground & the red lead to the PRK SW wire. Kenwood should only work when at 0 volts (brake set). Release the brake - meter shows 12 volts & the Kenwood shuts off.

I hope this helps & Good luck!

E brake bypass for my kenwood DNX 5120EX

There should be an option on your head unit to turn safe mode off. If this fails, you need to trace the parking brake wire that runs from your head unit back to the parking brake switch and disconnect it. This is illegal in some contries and therefore not recommended.

DNX 7100

What type of car is it? Make sure the Black (Ground) lead for the radio is connected to an adequate ground wire in the harness or to chassis metal. Some vehicles (Nissan, Mitsubishi) have no ground lead in their harnesses and need to be grounded to bare metal.

DNX 7100 E brake over ride wire?

In your install manual, it'll tell you which wire in the harness of the DVD player is the e-brake wire. Simply run that to any screw under the dash that is screwed into metal framework. If it is in the plastic parts of the dash, it won't work. Find a screw that threads into metal, put a ring terminal on the wire, put the screw/bolt through it, and tighten it down, and you're done.

Kenwood dnx 7100 shuts off sporadically

If it is shutting off and coming right back on I would defintley take another look at your ground connection. This is the most likley cause for the sudden turn offs. Especially if it comes right back on.

Factory controls interface?

Call these guys at hifiaudio.com and purchase the SWC module that matches your vehicle (ask for Scroche brand). Once you purchase the SWC module, make sure you read the installation instructions two or three times before you install it. Once installed, these SWC units work great. I just completed the installation on my 2008 F150 with the Kenwood DNX-7100 and my steering wheel interface works perfectly.
