Question about Sony VAIO VGC-RC110G (VGCR110G) PC Desktop

ATI Video Card

I am having a problem where my screen pulls up a different screen saying there is a problem with my ATI card. (running infinite loops) I can not get in my computer any more, not even safe mode. I have never put anything in the computer it did not come with. I do run high 3D games though, what can I do to fix this? Or is it even a problem with my video card?

My video card stopped working

If you have Integrated Graphics, you will need a Aftermarket Graphics Card to install in a vacant PCIe x16 slot. If it's a PCI ATI Graphics Card installed in your machine , Unplug the computer, remove the ATI Graphics Card and clean the card contacts ,using a can of Electronic Contact Cleaner, reseat and reconnect power and the monitor cable, reboot.

What ati and nvidia video cards are compatible with presario s6300nx

The motherboard used has an AGP 8X/4X expansion slot for a video card. Any card for this type of slot will work, and your choice will probably be based on what applications you want to run, and how much you want to spend. Since this computer is an AMD Athlon system, some people believe you should use an ATI card. AMD owns ATI, and there is a belief that an ATI card will perform better. I've tried both (my current video card is an nVidia model, in an Athlon dual-core board), and at least for me it makes no difference.

I have 2 acer data managerment problem found in edata security software installation it says please close all running programs and reinstall edats security. the second one is catalyst control center is not...

> please close all running programs and reinstall edats security.

Close programs (word-processor, web-browser).
Click Start
Click Control Panel
Click Classic View
Click Add/Remove Programs
Click on EDATS SECURITY (or something approximately that)
Click Remove
Click OK
Shutdown
Restart
Reinstall the software

> catalyst control center is not supported by the friver [?]
> version of your enabled graphics adapter.

ATI (www.ati.com) distributes the "Catalyst" software with their adapter video-cards. So, there is a problem with the "Control Center" component of their software.

> please update your ati graphics,
> or enable your ati adapter using displays manager

First, do you have an add-in video-card in your computer?
If not, then you should not be trying to use the ATI software,
and you should remove it:
* click Start
* click Control Panel
* click Add/Remove Programs
* select the ATI Catalyst software
* click Remove
* restart your computer

Second, if you have added an ATI card, you may need to restart your computer, press DELETE to enter BIOS SETUP, and "disable" the "onboard" video-adapter, or change the video-priority so that the ATI video-card becomes the "primary" video-adapter, and the onboard video-adapter becomes the "secondary" video-adapter.
Then, click Save Changes, and before selecting Exit From Setup,
move the video data-cable from the onboard VGA port to the VGA port on the ATI video-adapter. Then, "blindly", click Exit, and let your computer restart. Then, during the reboot, the ATI software will recognize the new "primary" video-card, and will the software will control the ATI video-hardware.

Sometimes, it helps to have a second computer monitor, and connect one adapter to the "onboard" VGA-port, and the other to the ATI VGA-port, so that you can see video output wherever it is produced.

ATI driver problem

ATI cards are usually pretty solid. It is possible you have a hardware problem. However since you are gaming I would say your video card cpu is overheating. There is a cooling fan on newer ATI cards and they do get full of grunge and then don't cool the video processor enough. Normally you don't notice but games push the card to its limits, it overheats and then you get a bsod. If you reboot that will cool it enough to run again. It might not run as smooth which is the clue it had overheated.

If it isn't overheating you may have the setting wrong or set too aggressively or you are simply doing more than the card is meant to do. You can use the catalyst control center to reset the card or tweak it and see if that makes it behave.

Unfortunately if it is not one of those you do have a hardware problem and the card needs to be repaired or replaced. ATI has a great service policy (some older cards were lifetime ie yours not the cards) so it can be worth talking to them. If the card is not covered they also usually have some kind of trade in policy where you get a a discount on a new card by trading in your old one. It's worth checking out.

Which is better????

This is really a user preference choice. Both ATI and Nvidia are the top video card manufacturers. I have used and liked both. 1 of my machines has an ATI and one has a comparable Nvidia card. Both are equal in performance and stability.

Choosing a card depends on what you need. If you want a gaming card I'd say Nvidia Gforce.

Hope this helps

I have been having a problem lately with my desktop pc,windows xp

Try running the system in VGA mode.
I assume this is a windows machine.
So hit f8 just before the loading Windows screen comes up. and choose Safe mode .
Then set your video card properties to VGA and reboot, that should get you back into windows.
once in, reload your video card drivers.
All should be good...

Which AGP card is Better??

It is a toss-up , six ppl love ati , six love nvidia. I personally am a gamer, i run 2 nvidia 8600's (256m each). This is a personal preference.
My advise to you is look at the system requirements of your games you have or want to buy and see what video card they are optimised for, buy that one , but go a little beyond the specifications needed for the game as you dont want to upgrade again soon.
also take note if your PC has a 2x , 4x , or 8x agp bus. this will determine how much of an 8x card you can use in your system. for example , if you have an 4x AGP slot on your computer and install a 8x card, the card will run at 4x.
other things to consider. clock speeds are diferent on the same card from different manufactures as they customize the software and some beef up the clock settings. so you could buy the same card from two different makers and they will operate differently as for as performance.
I have had a lot of luck with nvidias' albatross 6600 GT 128Meg agp 4x card. i replaced it with a newer ATI x1200 256meg agp 8x and it only ran about two thirds as fast as the nvidia card with twice the bandwitdh.
in conclusion, i switched back as the 6600gt was actually a pci-e card with an agp interface (first generation pci-e)
i am fond of nvidia for gaming , but also know you get what you pay for in video cards.
Hope this helps in the decisiond making.
Regards.

If you are sure your computer is running smoothly with the video card, check if the pins of the vga cable from your monitor is in good shape.

ATI RADEON 9550 X 1050 256MB --Someitmes Screen goes blank

I read somewhere that this black screen/blank screen problem is due to a hardware conflict with AMD boards that use a VIA northbridge chipset.  So I tested this by installing the video card on a AMD board with a SiS chipset.  Since installing on a board with the SiS chipset, I have had NO problems whatsoever.  I am convinced it is a hardware incompatibility issue.
I also am running an older version of Catalyst, version 7.7, per recommendations from others.  I have heard the X1050 has problems with 7.8 and above.  I admit, I have risked it and subsequently updated the drivers through windows update, without any problems, but have not updated Catalyst.  Still running fine.
