I cannot figure out how to fill the screen with an image. It has the black side strips instead of a full screen image.

If you were to go to the picture menu and select picture aspect ratio and select 16 X 9 or a different one that you have at present, that will fill the screen.

We have a Vizio E50-E3 and the screen went black! There is sound and an image can still be seen with a flashlight! We replaced the power supply board but it still remains black!

supply board is not the problem, you have to check the led strips on the back side of the screen ,be carefull not to crack the fine glass screen, and check inverter voltage connected to led strips.

Some stations do not come in full screen?

Not all programmes are broadcasted in a full screen format, they may show the programme with black bars on the top & bottom or left & right sides of the screen. If you have the TV in the Auto setting for the Aspect Ratio then the picture will be displayed in that size of format relative to the broadcast. If you want to fill the screen you can try a different Aspect Ratio to one that fills the screen to a wider image if available.

Why do we have black bars on top and bottom of screen

Originally when 16:9 TVs were produced movies were being shot in 16:9 so that you had a full screen. Now they are being shot in 14:9 as it gives you a more cinematic experience. This is due to the fact that colours look more vibrant when they are placed against a colourless/lightless surface (such as a black panel) as for the bars on the side of the screen LuciferStarr is correct; it depends on the format in which the video was originally produced. For example most older television shows are still shown in 4:3 but newer shows and movies are produced in the widescreen format.

Full screen

The black lines are because you are playing the analog 4:3 picture on a newer 16:9 shaped screen. If you don't have the manual, you can get it by going to www.sharpusa.com and search for your tv model listed. The user guide is available in pdf format.

According to page 35, you need the "view mode" button on your remote. You sound like you want it set to "S" for "Stretch".

enjoy your TV,

MAC screen doesnt fill Samsung Monitor

Often there is an auto correct button on the monitor, if not them press them menu button and navigate to find horizontal size. If neither of those work you might try taking apart the monitor and reseating the video cable to the monitor.
