Samsung 42" Plasma HDTV cable hookup problem

My son just bought Samsung 42" Plasma HDTV. When trying to hook up to cable outlet, sparks flew. Hook up to DVD player went fine and TV shows DVD's fine. Cable company examined cable connection and said problem must be with TV. Is it the TV? Does he need to return it for another one?

I would return it but do not mention the sparks as they will say that is not a manufacturers defect but rather a customer's creating that failure.
To plug the next TV make sure that everything is OFF or better disconnected from the AC power from any device before hooking it up to the TV. Is more likely an ESD discharge that cause the sparks and damage the tuner circuitry.

There sould not have been sparks. Check the following: Using a voltmeter check between the cable itself and ground. There should not be any reading (anything less than .1V is normal). Check again between the inner hole of the RF connector and the outside part. Again there should be less than .1V. If you read any voltage at the RF connector, the TV is faulty and should be exchanged. If you read voltage at the cable, have teh cable company check again.

ok, have you tried hooking up your PS3 to a different tv and it work? if so, you may have to change the settings in the PS3 to fit the LG tv. or, it may be in the menu options of the tv for a specific channel or setting. reading directions for hookup is a big help too:P

Vhs hookup to tv

Try hooking up the AV cables, unless it's an older model(1993-1998) then you might require a coaxial cable. After this you simply plug it into the wall outlet, but I would suggest a surge protector for a Hitachi. If that does not work, then it is simply not compatible, but it should work, good luck

Samsung HDMI issue

Have you try to replace your HDMI cable?I recommend you to pick up a good Monster HD700 HDMI cable from a local retail store like best buy or circuit city.In case it isn't the cable problem, you could return it.
However, when you are a using the HDMI cable,it is normally either have both picture and sound or nothing at all.Are you sure you didn't hook up the audio OUTPUT from your TV back to a receiver input?
Or even an optical output from the TV to the receiver?

Cable box hookup

The cable has a bad ground and you should contact the cable provider to get things right. The cable can carry AC voltage and if there is a isolation problem it could blow the TV if you try to hook it up.
