Sounds like the scan head is locked. This is usually done so you can transport the scanner without bouncing the scan head out of alignment. Look under the scanner and you will see it. Make sure it's in the UNLOCKED position. You may need to power the unit off/on to reset it or restart your computer to get a fresh attempt at the scanner.
Scanner is locked for saftey resons during shipping, which can be unlocked by pushing the lock to open position. Turn off the scanner, remove the data cable and unlock the scanner. The scanner lock is at the bottom (underside) of the unit as shown below:
Plug-in the power and Data (I/F) Cable and HERE YOU GO!!
Hope it helps! Good Luck!

My CanonScan Lide 25 Problem : 2,178,0
Thanks a lot.......
Check the lock switch and make sure it is unlocked. I think the lock switch is on the bottom...or it may be under the lid near one of the hinges. Flip it back and forth and leave it in the unlocked position.
If this doesn't work, then it will most likely need service. Contact Canon Tech Support.

Your Train source may be your scanner Twain driver. Reinstall the driver.
