It is a loose connection or cold solder and cleaning problem this is the main caused .Cold solder issues - each component is soldered into small holes on the printed circuit board which in turn connects said component to the other components. Due to time, heat, use, some solder joints would be cracked or loose. It is possible that the cold solder is still minimally connected (hanging by a thread). When the receiver turns on heat would be generated which would be sufficient to further loosen up the solder joint to the point it no longer provides electrical contact. Jarring the unit creates movement inside enough to re establish the contact, sometime good enough sometimes not enough.

Again, since the unit still operates (sometimes) then it is highly probable that there are no defective components. As you have surmised, it is possibly a loose connection, solder joints are "connections" except that molten soldering lead is used to attach/connect the component to the board, "loose connection" in this sense is equal to "cold solder".

Again on the assumption of no defective parts, then seeking a more experienced buddy for the soldering might be to your advantage. This is of course in addition to the possible electrical hazards when repairing....

Good luck:

Grandson played with remote now only getting snow on tv. on correct channel and input setting. tried turning on and off.

If your set is connected via the RF coax cable from a cable box, what may have happened is that you may still be selecting the RF input, but not cable channels.....you may now be linked the the old analog channels that were for over the air broadcasts. There is a menu option that selects the type of tuner that is used for the coax input.

How do you replace a coax antenna port that was pulled out from the back of the tv

On most sets the tuner has to be removed for this to be done-a new fitting or a new tuner can be installed.

If the set has the standard RCA audio and video jacks for input you can hook a cable box or even an old VCR to those and BYPASS the coax fitting--hook up to those inputs--select them on the set and leave set on that input and change channels with the box or VCR.

Much cheaper than replacing the fitting and gives a better picture.

buy any old vcr and use coax.cable from that as in..then use output from vcr to input for your t.v...t.v. must then be in the proper input source mode.

RCA 27 inch ColorTrak Plus. TV is hooked to cable. I can produce the problem by wiggling the coax connector. The screen goes through various degrees of snowy-ness until I find the sweetspot on the coax....

The failure with this TV is due to faulty ground in the tuner that is why when you wiggle the cable connected to the tuner the picture clears up. If this failure is not repair, it will corrupt the data on the eprom until the TV will not power ON anymore.
Check the info from this link to find more info on the failure of your TV.

Pioneer 503mxe cant wire it up

To connect as you describe you will need a tuner card as the 503MXE is a monitor rather than a receiver. Otherwise the only option is to connect a scart to the 5xBNC connectors (Input 2) but you will need to be sure that your digi box outputs RGB over scart. If you have the optional video card (PDA 5002) fitted then you can connect via the s-video connection (Input 3) assuming your digi box has an s-video output.

No cable signal on 32" flat panel Olevia tv

When you write 'tuner,' do you mean the internal TV tuner or do you have a cable box between the wall connector and your set's input?

If you are connected from the wall to the set, then the sensitive circuitry (it may only tolerate a few volts max video) is damaged.
If your set was a couple of decades old, it might be fairly easy to repair.

If the set was damaged via the cable service, you may have some recourse unless your cable provider has seen fit to absolve themselves from liability, I suspect they have.

I do not know your set but it is not impossible that the video input circuitry for cable and antenna is on a smaller assembly that processes it before reaching the main board.
The latter has obviously survived since you still have the other functions.

No channels above 47

That works great except I can get the tuner to program any channels above channel47. Is this a limitation of this older model TV yes there is limitation in old tv. is there some setting I can change in order to get more channels using the tv tuner? in INDIA what we do is put a remote control ckt which gives us about 250 channels. of course we replace tuner also called hyper tuner along with remote ckt or replace whole kit which are cheaply available.& serves the purpose. hope this will help

The cable coax male connection is disconnected from the television

The coax connector you describe is called the F connector and the silver box it is attached to is called the tuner. The original F connector or a replacement F connector can be soldered back into the tuner, but the metal frame of the tuner must be straightened out and the center pin must be delicately reattached too. This is quite an easy job but requires some labor, assuming that nothing was jammed into the tuner when the F connector was out and the coils behind the F connector have not been disturbed. I usually charge about $40 to reattach F connectors but if I have to replace the tuner I charge about $50 because it is a lot less labor to replace the tuner and they can be purchased for about $25.
