Re: Acer Aspire 1640z keyboard removal
I don't have the diagram but i can give you direction.
1. remove the power cover first (where power button is), it might have 3 screw that hold, if there is 3 screw on the power cover, remove it first.
2. after your removed the power cover, you can see the screw that hold keyboard. remove that screw and you can remove the keyboard.

Clear the dust from the heatsink and fan assembly. Most laptops have vents on the bottom and outlet vents on the side or back of the laptop. The fan covers on the base are held in place by screws. The fan is usually over the CPU and is held in place with 3 or 4 spring loaded screws, remove these will allow you to remove the fan and heatsink assmbly.
If there isn't vents on the bottom of the laptop, only on the sides and back edges, then the heatsink and fan assembly is usually located under the keyboard and you need to remove the keyboard to clean/remove the dust off the heatsink/fan.
After cleaning and before re-assembly apply a thin film of heatsink compound on top of the CPU.
Hi bertyboo, Acer does not have sound drivers for Vista.
However your Aspire 1640Z notebook should be able to use the RealTek driver included in the link below. The download button is located at the right side of the page. Scroll down the site & look under, Operating System Requirements: (Vista is included). http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/115727
