There is no power lead, just a power connector, you need to connect it internally using a SATA IDE cable, some new computer does not have this connection anymore

Hi,

To my understanding, your new Lite-On LH-20A1L 20x Super AllWrite DVD±RW/RAM is a SATA whereas your Dell Dimension 1100 has only DMA/ATA-100 (Ultra) EIDE. it will not work nor the connectors fit.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi again,

However, there is a way to interconnect but with the use of an adapter. There are versions for SATA to USB and SATA to IDE. Pls reference this page as a start.

Of course, if you can have it returned/replaced with an IDE version...

Dell Dimension 8200 computer has started but monitor screen remains black

Test all power and data leads that attach to your hard drive IDE,SATA

the leads from your (motherboard to your hard drive) make sure they have secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they might be faulty

if its a 40 pin flat ribbon type it will be the first to fail

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty

even something as small as a faulty electrical fan and its lead can cause you problems

computers need all power and data to continue through every working device and to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

make sure your graphics card is securely seated with no dust built up or in the socket

if you remove your graphics check the socket to make sure its dust free

restart your computer then reinstall it this should activate found new hardware wizard

My screen keeps apearing "Contrast 100"

Check all cords and cables from PC to monitor. Also make sure the graphics card is properly seated into its slot in the motherboard. That is how I would start. If this doesn't help it might be the graphics card or monitor. Need more info.

The Drive you purchased is a SATA interface, the system you have uses Parallal ATA IDE interface.

You need to get a Drive with an IDE interface for that system.

Setup bois password 4 got

On the motherboard, very close to the battery, there should be several pins with a jumper on two of them. One set may be marked "reset Bios password", or just "Reset", which will discharge the BIOS capacitor.
Remove the battery first, then move the jumper to the Reset pins for a second or so, then move the jumper back to it's original position and replace the battery.
When you power up the computer, the Bios password should now be empty.

If you cannot find these pins, try leaving the battery out and do not turn on the computer (I know this may not be possible) for several days to allow the capacitor to discharge.
