Question about Belkin Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a belkin wireless adapter which connects to an BT Voyager ADSL router. This has been working fine for a number of years. Recently the adapter has failed to connect to the router and doesn't seem to pick up a strong signal - when it does wventually connect, it takes forever to get an IP address and when it does seem to connect, it's allocates an arbitrary address - in effect it doesn't connect. Tried powering off/on PC and ADSL, rechecked encrytion keys all OK but no success. Yesterday, I corrected the problem by powering off the PC, plugging in the Belkin adapter into a diferrent USB port and booted up. When the adapter didn't connect, I placed it back into the original USB port and it worked ! I suspect the adapter is f**ked, but would welcome opinions. Unfortunately I don't have another wireless computer to test out the ADSL modem connection (that would prove if it was the adapter or the ADSL router)

Hi charisa12, before losing your temper pl delete the driver for wireless adapter and try to reload the OEM driver if possible, it may work fine.

Sometimes wireless phones will interfere with the signals. If the router or PC is anywhere near a phone, it might have a problem. I have one wireless network card that gives me fits like that. I have yet to get a PC working with it. I have other wireless cards that work fine. I also switched to 5GHz phones, which helped my old laptop. Check to make sure there's not a conflict with the encryption used by either the dell or the router.

I am replacing BT 105 modem with a Belkin adsl2 modem with wireless g router. The 105 has a blue cable with a square connector. I tried to put the yellow supplied cable in the back of my computer but it...

no, but you need to configure the router to connect to the internet, you should have a "quick start guide" that will help you connect to your router and set your ADSL dial settings (as it needs this to connect you to your internet service)

once these connection settings are set you should be able to connect to the internet

you can then explore the other settings including the wireless configuration of your router

I cannot connect to the internet with my belkin wireless adapater and i don't know why, please help.

you need more than a wireless adapter to connect to the internet......
you need a wireless network to connect to. in cafe's and pubs the owner sometimes sets up a WiFi network that their patrons can connect to, however most people have to provide their own.

to get to the internet , you will need.

A broadband connection (ADSL / Cable) this normally comes with a standard NON wifi modem
A WiFi Router (including ADSL / Cable Modem) depending on what you have already.

then to link a remote PC / Laptop to this network, A suitable wireless adapter ( like your belkin adapter)

it is a common misconception that a wireless adapter is all you need (advertising is vague)

I recently purchased a Hawking HSB2 Signal Booster. Two years ago, my son installed a Toshiba Cable modem(PCX2200)and a Belkin Wireless Router(model#F5D7230-4)for Camcast High Speed Internet. The Router...

Booster will only work along with access points in your case the belkin wireless router - you have to connect the device to the router not to the windows xp pc

if you know how to configure and the device are compatiable to each other and allows bridging or can configure as your access point client then you need not wanna to get it connected via wire or T568b standard ethernet cable otherwise you have to connect with this cable will enchance the wireless activity

Wireless signals can go down its strength by any magnetic activity, oscillations such as microwave, powerful steel/metal frames and check your anteena position keep in different direction and check your pc wifi signal strength.

Interlink between your router and booster with utp cables gives you steady flow of data and full band strength.

Aviod using two company devices change the router to Hawking
Thanks Hothawk

Check with your Network provider, and ask them if they can run a line check. No adsl can be problem with either the line or hardware.

But before that do check with your modem as well.
